Anybody know if there is a car wash nearby thats not an automatic one? I really want to be able to wash my car before hand but i dont want to take the CF hood through the auto car wash.

There is a quarter car wash right next to that BP station by the Hardee's:cool:

Hectour is right on target with his comments and its not directed at anyone in particular, but rather something to "plant" in everyone's head, whether your on your second, seventh or this is your noob run:shrug:

"VLADY" NUMBER OF DAYS TO GO!

All this golden advice and nothing about on-coming traffic? Or never ever ever ever cross the yellow line? I mean come on, the odds are very good you'll come around a bend and meet a full size X-over SUV understeering through your lane. Here's the toughest advice though: if a bike crosses into your lane, what do you do? You hit them. DO NOT swerve because you'll go off the road and die, and that'll ruin your day. If a bike or deer or wambat or Clifford the Big Red Dog is in your lane coming at you, you either slow and hit it as soft as possible or knock the out of them and pray you don't kill them. For all us who have spent considerable time at The Dragon, we know how important it is to stay in your lane. Cross the white lines all you want; tear up your own car all you want, but the second you cross the yellow line, you are trying to kill someone else. I won't have to think twice about running this new SUV straight over your hood if you cross into my lane; just FYI. ;)

Did I mention don't cross the yellow line? I did right? Ok, just making sure. The extra 0.0001s you shave off your run by cutting a corner isn't worth taking someone else's life.

Also, don't be a hero. Cuz there are locals with fewer teeth than social skills that can take you to school on a busted old Honda 150 faster than you can readjust your tire pressure.

And wear gloves; they make you look serious and badass.

You've got a very good point ^

The guy who is bringing the Nissan 240 from Michigan (Joe), warned as well about this. He even said to watch out for the bikers. Sometimes when they are making turns, they ride the center of the road so close, that they actually lean into your lane. Something I found interesting and plausible!

Eric is spot on about this! Cars as well as bikes have a tendency to hug the yellow line, this is why I try and stay to the right as much as possible (w/o going off the soft shoulder, ofcoarse!) Expect the unexpected around each corner and the only time its VERY safe is when you can actually see that nothing is coming your way, but this does NOT give you a free pass to cut the yellow lines.

ALSO, NO PASSING AROUND BLIND CORNERS, ITS BEEN DONE IN OUR GROUP ONCE AND ONLY ONCE AND THAT WAS DELT WITH! It sucks it had to happen but it was and now that person hasn't run with us since, although I think he's learned his lesson:shrug:

Can we please stop beating the safety horse to death? We are all grown men going on vacation, not little school kids. I am starting to feel like a little kid on his way to a field trip. This is like the teachers last lecture to scare you straight into behaving.

Everybody gets it, be safe......now back to the fun stuff as our trip gets closer and closer.

Any last minute mods for anyone? I got an unexpected referral gift card from a business I have partnered with, so I just ordered myself a spun aluminum Voodoo shift knob! Now I should enjoy the dragon more with a weighted countersunk bigger shift knob!

I hear what your saying Randy, but this is more directed at the noobs, not anyone inparticular;) BTW, you can never be too safe out there:shrug:

I agree.

Here's the point: No matter how many times you have been out on the Dragon and these roads, the conditions are NEVER the same. Different tourists, different weather, road conditions, etc. It is never good to assume that safety can take a backseat. If anything should be beaten to death it should be safety....especially since we have a lot of people that haven't ran with us in the past. I have a wife and daughter to come home to. I don't want to risk coming home to them because somebody out here wants to be a hero or is messing around.

I am just letting everyone know and I am not calling anyone in particular out.

Maybe it the way these posts regarding safety are being typed and the use of caps, maybe its just me.....It just feels like an E-tough guy safety lecture. I believe the following webpage discusses Tail of the Dragon safety really well and we can all just let it go. These "nobody better risk my safety or else" posts are just sucking all of the fun out of my anticipation for this trip. Nobody take this personal, these are just my thoughts.

LMAO @ Roger!

:shrug::shrug::shrug:

I tried to be as diplomatic and fair as possible in post earlier w/o mentioning any names, hence taking the high road in the matter, "Klassy" move on my part, don't YOU think:rolleyes:

Like I said before, this is directed more to the noobs who don't really know what this road is all about, vids on YouTube do it NO justice, you guys all know that! There's NO reason for any pannies to be in a bunch, so let's nip this in the bud right away and focus in on the fact that there's....

2 WEEKS AND ONE DAY TO GO!

OK. Now that everybody has un-bunched their panties and the safety police have taken a chill pill lets get back to the pre-trip festivities.

I am so tempted to take the Wednesday before off to prepare my car.

Be careful out there! You hear me Randy?!

you should install a winch on your jeep so that you can gets us out and tow us if one of us gets stuck because we are hooligans who disrespected the dragon and invoked the wrath her chupacabras minions.

I am no E-tough guy or E-Thug. I have and will act upon provocation.;)

2 more weeks to go! Counting down the days. Car is pretty much prepared, just wish I could spring for a short throw shifter before the trip.:blackeye:

Hectour is a "gentle giant" and I was surprised when he got in the guys face that I refuse to call out in my earlier post, so why LMAO@Roger anyways:shrug: I don't remember anyone having a problem last year with anyones driving, right, so everyone, please, don't worry about it, we're all good!

Sorry Roger, but you can say you're not saying anything about anyone particular but clearly that comment was about me. About something that happened IDK what about 3 years ago?

You seem sorta stuck on it. LOL anyways, I didn't learn my lesson and now ONLY pass on blind corners.

Remember the part where I typed "don't take this personal"? I am not calling you an E-tough guy, so no need to act. Nobody is provoking you.

oh my gosh. This is from THREE YEARS AGO! Everybody let it go already!!!

Roger: I knew you were a bit more serious about this Dragon Run when I saw you pull out the leather gloves last year.

Other folks last year took it more seriously than I did by bringing their driving shoes.

I don't think I am alone when I say this. Most of us don't bring driving aids such as seat belt locks, leather gloves, or special shoes (nothing wrong with bringing them). We are just auto enthusiasts who have fun cars and enjoy driving nice roads. Most folks don't consider this "track time." Most folks probably just want to enjoy fall and some nice curvy roads.

I am just a guy with a love of fun cars. No gloves or shoes. It's just me and my Nike Dunks.

I wasn't there three years ago, so I don't know what happened. I was there last year and everything went fine (except for the chupacabras incident, and I told you all that a night run was a bad idea). Let's just drop all of this and prepare to have a good time.

Everybody check your batteries before you go. Pepboys will do it for free. I just got mine checked today and found out that mine was nearly dead (I thought it was working a little bit harder to start recently). I don't count it as a mod, but I have a brand new energizer bunny under my hood (FYI: Sam's club was $20 cheaper than Autozone, Pepboys, and Advance Auto Parts).

I can keep going and going and going and..................................................

I actually had something kind of funny happen while I was purchasing the battery. A lady in line behind me saw the battery and said, "You must be powering something pretty big" I said "It's for my car", she said "It must be a small car"

So you guys know my battery is pretty tiny. It's 9"H x 9"L x 5"W. I felt like I was a kid changing the batteries in his RC powered toy car.
