Newb: Pics of my Bullitt

I think he was oversimplifying the point, but I also think that it wouldn't take much to make the scoop functional and not completely ruin the aerodynamics.

In order for it to do anything, you have to do exactly what was done w/ the Mach shaker, and route the air back to the airbox. Otherwise, you are just cramming more air into an already high pressure engine compartment. If you want to improve aero in the front, you need to get the air OUT from under the hood, ala the Terminator, or 03/04 Cobra, or the GT500 with the hood vents on the forward 1/3rd of the hood.

What are your opinions on the Cervini's "concept" hood with the ram air kit running direct to the airbox?

No doubt its functional, in that it directs cold air to the airbox. It does pick up air in a good location, and looks much better than many "scooped" hoods (still not a big fan though) but I'd wager that improvements are small, and only at highway speeds at that. My money says do it if you like the looks, and spend the money elsewhere if you want performance improvements.

That verifies what I was thinking. Thanks, man.

I'll have to pick your brain about suspension components, too. I've got the mod bug, but need $ first. ;)

The IRS really makes the car feel more settled than the stock stick axle, doesn't it? Really makes the rear end feel flatter and more composed around bumps and stuff; it brings the rear roll center down almost 12".
But one draw-back, the tire hop in SC'd cars is quite notorious

I'm not too concerned about wheel-hop. My car isn't blown, and it's basically stock. Just a JLT on the motor and that's it. There's a guy on SVTperformance who sells a Delrin bushing kit for the IRS to nearly eliminate wheel-hop, but from what I've heard, the ride quality gets a little more harsh.

It's a Mustang not like it's a smooth riding car to begin with:laugh:.

Given enough of a gap between the hood & cowl, couldn't getting rid of the rear hood seal on the cowl accomplish the same thing?

u're right. i was only tryn to make a point of having a scoop that's useless. i'll tell u this tho; a hole in the hood and a little raising of the hood in the rear will be better.

I didn't really have much wheel hop at all on my '04, it was def. worse on my '01---both IRS Cobras ('04 made 456/465 and the '01 317/301 at the tires). Their are definitely ways to fix the wheel hop and not all are expensive---rear lowering springs and 18" DRs did the trick for me .

not everyone drag races.

But mostly everyone accelerates hard:shrug:

Aaahh, I see.

I was thinking it was more of a inagging problem. Guess not:shrug:

Funny how the LS1 Camaro/WS6 guys say it's impossible to fix:rolleyes:

haha, yeah---that's fine let them think that :)
I also shouldn't have beat a Procharged auto LS1 T/A, but thats why you don't listen to what people tell you.

Nope, opening the cowl also pushes air under the hood. The base of the windshield is a high pressure zone also, this is why they call a hood raised at the rear "cowl induction" because air goes in not out when you open that up.

Funny, I never had problems in my Cobra I converted to IRS, nor with any of the test cars I drove on a regular basis when we launched the 03 Cobra. Nor did we ever have a problem on the IRS equipped Grand Am Cup SN95 Cobras we ran for several years. The wheel hop is easy to drive around, and is really only a problem on drag racing style launches. Hence its really only a problem for people that drag race, this is why so many of the Cobra drag racers convert back to solid axle.

I thought that was only when you raised the rear of the hood. Still learning something new everyday I guess.
