what is the gray peice that is bolted to the coil pack, and what does it do. i know it's not just a ground because it's connected into the live wire for the coil pack... any ideas?

Are you talking about a Zetec engine?

I have a Zetec engine and I have a grey plastic connector that is however not bolted on coil pack. It(actually the plastic connector case) is attached to the metal coil pack holder and I am pretty sure it is sort of grounding. If it was hooked up to a hot wire, my car would be smoking right now knowing that the other end of the wire is grounded...

it's on the duratec... but that's what i was thinking about the hot wire being grounded but i wasn't sure that's why i was asking. the thing is the wire was connected from the factory so i know that it's pretty sure it's supposed to be like that and i've seen it connected to the coil pack bolt on every diagram...

Fig. Fig. 15: The coil pack is attached to a bracket with four small bolts

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Unplug the ignition coil pack connector and unplug the radio interference capacitor located on the coil pack.
  3. Remove the EGR vacuum regulator solenoid from the upper intake manifold.
  4. Label and remove the spark plug wires from the coil by squeezing the locking tabs and twisting while gently pulling upward.
  5. Remove the coil pack retaining bolts, the radio interference capacitor, and the ground wire from the bracket and remove the coil pack.
