My custom amp rack

Good thing you built that amp rack. You def don't want those amps flying off while your braking

So how are you guys mounting these racks to the rear deck? I'm assuming you are removing the top "cover" on the deck and using a backing plate of some sort.. I've got 3 amps to place and this looks better then mounting them on the sub box.

I actually put 4 long bolts through the metal in the rear deck, and used some black pipe to cover the bolts, cut off the excess bolt with a dremel and started rocking!

By putting the amp so close to the rear deck, would it make the amp run hotter because there is less space for the heat to travel up and out?

i just said screw it and bolted my amp to the rear deck upside down. and before anyone tells me "dont do that youll burn up your amp!" in the instructions there were no warnings about proper mounting direction and i keep close watch on it to make sure it doesnt get too hot. it stays pretty damn cold... both sides.

by the way good job trying it out. interested to see the finished pics

I would not think that it would over heat up there

with the amp upside down the heat goes back into the amp rather than to the heatsink however i have it bolted directly to the metal effectively making an even bigger heatsink. works fine and fools people all over. they always try to figure out where i put it. no one thinks to look up.

yes and i know that is way off. sounded ok when i posted it. sounds retarded now. but im curious to hear what you have to say

they cool the IC's via fins and a non-forced air convection setup. the idea is that the fins give you the greatest surface area possible while still being close to the IC. simply attaching it to a flat parcel shelf (that is carpeted/insulated on one side, no less) doesn't quite work the same.

gee, what did that setup look like?

well.... if you insist. :D

i see what you mean. i will wave the white flag when it comes to amps.

im used to the type of heat sink on my RC car which does the same thing as what you are saying just removes the heat from the head of the engine.

a heat sink can be anything really. the idea being that it provides a place to disperse heat from a give object across a larger area promoting further dispersion other ways.

i didnt realize the heat sink in an amp was specifically for a certain piece but thought it was for all the electronics inside. learn something new everyday.

thank you

nice setup by the way

One of the cleanest looking setups I've ever seen in a Contour. I'm sure it sounded amazing.

What were you running up front speaker wise?

I assume you took that pic before you did any eq adjustments...everything seems to be set flat. (or at least it appears that way in the first picture) :ponder:

Nice!!!

i had mb quart qsd's in the front. and the subs were lambda 15's.

and yeah, it was before i did any adjusting. i had just wrapped up the install and snapped some quick pics.
