Been awhile since Ive been on this forum, but now that Ive gotten a SVT, and its in the garage being revived, I guess I can go ahead an make a build thread to join the likes of the others on here that have done the same.

Found this one living up to its FORD acronym, found on road dead. Its a EO and had 181,xxx miles it before it met its demise.

Previous owner said he heard knocking and it lost power, then pulled over for it never to move again. I paid him 600 bucks and picked it up off the side of the road from him and off I went. Now that was a year ago, and the car has been sitting idle since, until lately. The body overall in is really good shape. A couple minor door dings, and the hood and trunk need to be repainted since previous owner decided to add a few touches of his own, as you can see in the headlights. The interior on the other hand, is in amazing shape, aside from some rub on the carpet from the drivers clutch foot. seats are in great shape, as well as everything else.

Finally moved into a place with a garage and has ample room to start tearing it apart, and heres where Im at now. Got the front end off of it, and started pulling the necessaries, and some unnecessary things, and eventually will have the motor out when I get some motivation to do so.

Found this gem while pulling out the plugs, front bank center cylinder, nice and flat plug.

So far I've acquired a set of bugzuki plates for porting a 3L whenever I finally find one. Not sure what one im wanting to go with, as I've not go too much time to put into the swap as Im without a car and need to get this thing moving again. Picked up a new harness from Sam, and just got this spare set of E1s today from a guy on CraigsList.

So hopefully here soon within the next week or so Ill be able to start updating more, but time and money are of the biggest concern. So many more options for these swaps nowadays than hell almost 10 years ago that I was here and they were rare.

you had a pre98 with a micha bumper back in the day right? me too.
personally i'd go full 3l if time and money is of concern. just get the NPG fuel rail adaptor. while it'll certainly not be the high rpm screamer that the ported w/svt cams motor is it'll be very liveable and torquey.

yes sir, that be me.

I still have his oem fiberglas hood that I had on my car sitting in storage. While time and money are of a concern, I dont really want to rush it and do something Ill regret later wishing I did it another way. From what Ive read, doing the port match setup isnt too extensive, and Id like to keep the svt manifold atop the motor where it belongs. And Id definitely like to keep a higher reving motor, I like to wind out gears once in a while :D

Hybrid > full Taurus garbage ;)

I spy a DSM

Was a 97 gst that I got for free and parted it out completely. Made a decent amount of money off of it.

well a smidgen of an update. I found a motor here locally out of a 2005 Sable, with 32k on it for about 600, so i went and put some money on it today to hold it for me till my next pay day. Bough the spec stage II clutch from the classified on here, and hope to have it soon as well. Need to look into maybe a new set of headers, or at least a y pipe since i broke a couple of the collector bolts off on the y pipe when disconnecting it from the exhaust. Also need to hit up the local junkyard and pull the shifter cables from a svt they have there since the ends of mine are broken off. Slowly but surely Im working my way to getting this thing on the road, but hopefully Ill be able to do so within the next month, got most of the big stuff out of the way now, just need to wait for the nickel and dime costs.

Also decided against going with svt cams in the motor. I wanted to at first, but since my motor has 180k miles on it I dont trust the chains ans tensioners being in any good shape or much life left in them. I guess ill just leave the 3l cams in there with the port match.

Ill definitely keep that in mind. Ill get back to you next week after I find out where i stand money wise after bring home the 3l.

New update since the site is back up. Picked up my motor, pulled the valve covers and the thing is pretty clean. Got the 2.5 out and on the ground. started porting the heads, gotta finish that soon. Still gotta swap all the stuff over from the old to the new, and get the flywheel freshened up and figure out what i'm doing with the headers. I'll have some pics up soon but I've got to get to a laptop to do so.

Motor home and ready to tear apart

So got a quick question. Which head is easier to remove to get the upper mount out? I pulled all the head bolts in the front head, the bolts in the front timing cover that go into the head as well, and cant get the head up some to slide the mount out. is it easier to do the rear head?

I believe you have to fully remove the front timeing cover.

Are you talking about the 2.5L that is being replaced? If so, you might as well completely pull either head. Once the bolts are out, it helps to rap upward with a rubber mallet. You will spill coolant when the head releases from the block.

Did you pull the cams out? You can't remove the heads on either side unless you pull the timing cover, and all the timing gear. The chain guides bolt to the block and heads and would be holding them together if you were trying to pull them.

I guess I'll wait til I can get the timing cover all the way off to pull the mount the rest of the way out.

Just ordered all of these from RockAuto, so hopefully Ill get some motivation to get back out there and finish this thing up when they get here.

FEL-PRO OS30697R Oil Pan Gasket

^^^^only pulling the head on the 2.5 to get the upper mount out, not on the 3l.

well a little more of an update. Started to tear the 2.5 completely down yesterday. Found out a lot of bad things about this motor that I kind of expected, some i didnt.

got the tranny off, pulled the stock clutch off, looked terrible, as does the flywheel.

would resurfacing it clean up enough of those hot spots? or should i just get a replacement?

Took all the exhaust off in one piece because all the nuts were seized to the bolts, so there was no separating the ypipe from the manifolds. In the midst of that, found this wonderful sight.

followed by this once i got the oil pan off, which is no longer reusable :(

almost to the end of the 2.5 tear down. i need a pulley puller for the crank pulley so i can get the timing cover off and then ill be done with it for the most part.
