Lookin fer a jerb...

I'm amazed that anyone needs to say this, but in any medium through which you might be seeking employment, it seems obvious to me that it would be vital to do your very best to come across as intelligent, diligent, and literate.

Including, in any such inquiries, a demonstration that you are either too stupid to spell simple, common words, such as “job” or “you”; or else to lazy to take the time and effort to write these words correctly, or just so damn sloppy that you don't care how stupid and lazy you look; is not going to make a very good impression on anyone who might be able to help you find employment.

If you really are that stupid, then don't bother; nobody is going to hire you anyway—not when there are plenty of other people, who possess at least normal levels of intelligence and literacy competing against you for the same jobs.

Otherwise, especially in job-hunting-related communications, please consider the value in taking the time and effort to write in a manner that communicates that you are intelligent enough to have written something that might be worth the effort of reading it.

When I see writing such as this, I usually don't bother to try to parse what the illiterate cretin who wrote it was actually trying to say; all I read out of it is “Hey, everyone! Look how stupid I am! Please mock me and make fun of me and treat me as the idiot that I obviously am.” Is this really the impression that you want to make an a potential employer, or on someone who might be able to steer you toward a potential employer?

And even if I grant the possibility that such a writer might have a useful degree of intelligence, that leaves me to presume that he is lazy and sloppy, and will do a crappy job just to save himself a tiny amount of effort. Do you think any employer wants an employee that will do a sloppy, crappy job, rather than put out a tiny amount of additional effort to do a good job?

Even in more casual sorts of communications, if what you have to say isn't worth your trouble to write it properly, then why should it be worth anyone else's trouble to try to read it? And in job-seeking communications, this is far more critical.

This sort of writing is symptomatic of the sort of person who, if I get teamed up with such a person to perform a particular task, I'll end up doing more work to cover for that other person's stupidity, incompetence, laziness, and sloppiness, than I would have to do if I were just to perform the task myself, without that other person's “help”.

WHOOOW, calm down a little. We are all on a contour "FORUM" IE... I/WE abbreviate & spell words incorrectly bc it's shorter & quicker! Just chill, we are "suppose to be all members & get along, you know!

I don't know what you do & it's none of my business but I'm 30, have my own business & bust my a**!!!

Coming from an HR/Engineering Recruiting/SBO's perspective, this is a forum not a JOB PHONE or IN-PERSON INTERVIEW so chill out bro.

The guy you’re referring to, you don't know from Adam & neither do I. But you know what... he does the same work, my client’s need we just don't have the right match on this one.

If everyone on this forum would take a little time & communicate about jobs in their semi-local, local, region & area it would help the unemployed find work and the satisfaction of the person who found the guy looking for work.

"Let's just all get a long"

That post was way out there, huh?

Anyway, my boss has basically used every skill I have for his business. Just last week he tapped into my ability to sell, sell, sell!

After wearing through a set of knee pads, I managed to keep our biggest account with us and we are set for this year. Next year is going to be just as hard, but I/we will do what we can to keep going. A business that has been open since 1938 can't just close up, I won't let it.

Anyway's PM your email address & I will send you a reply with my work contact info. If you can reply after that & email me your latest & greatest MS Word doc resume. I can then get you in my system/database & call you down the road if I have an opportunity that looks like a match.

I'm amazed that anyone would think a posting in WGL would be construed as anything other than informal. This isn't monster.com...

the illiterate cretin who wrote it

Ballsy statement considering you know NOTHING about me. If you knew just how far off everything you had to say was from who I actually am, you would be ashamed of yourself for what you wrote. Come to Spring Zing, meet me in person...and if you still feel the same way, I will sit in a chair like a lazy SOB, while you read your post word for word to my illiterate cretin face.

Dude, shut up. I can totally beat you up.

In a medium such as this, we have nothing on which to judge one another but what we write, and how we write it.

If you write like an illiterate cretin, then I have no basis on which to assume that you are anything other than an illiterate cretin.

You probably don't care what I think of you, but if you want a job, you had better care what anyone in a position to offer you one thinks of you. If a prospective employer thinks that you're so stupid that you can't even spell the word “job”, then he'll hire someone else, who doesn't come across as being quite so stupid. if he thinks that you are so sloppy and lazy about your writing, that you don't care how you come across, then he's going to assume that you'd be equally sloppy and lazy about performing the job for which he might hire you; again, the job will go to someone else, who impresses him as not being so sloppy and lazy.

wow ... you really don't get it. this is the internet, a forum. who gives a crap if someone can spell. Im fairly certain the most people here are smart enought to know that you don't write like that in the business environment. but this isn't a business environment. can it be annoying to read, sure. But we all get whats going on. maybe you shouldn't be so judgmental. it is after all just some text on the internet, you can't really judge a person by that ....

if you haven't noticed alot of people type like that here, its like a running joke because they are typing like one might sound like they talk, or something of the sort ....

I don't think Josh is looking to get a job referral from uppity strangers who don't know him from a hole in the wall.
Pretty sure the thread was directed more toward people on the site that actually know him and his work ethic (and true speaking abilities) so that they could give him a proper referral.
If you don't know Josh, then you'd be wasting your time trying to refer him to any sort of position.

I also saw the thread as more of a venting to friends to relieve current work stress. A good way to relieve stress is with humor.
People who know Josh also appreciate the humorous usage of the word "jerb" (ie homestarrunner, SouthPark, etc).
The thread is directed toward people that "get it" and get Josh.

It's too bad that everyone's comfort level with each other has put such an immense bug up Bob's ass, and forced him to come around thinking he needs to educate everyone what they already know about proper and effective communication.

The part you're missing....is that i wrote the message a particular way, for a particular reason, addressing a particular audience. While you are certainly book smart, I have a sneaking suspicion your social skills are atrocious. I could be wrong, but i have no basis to judge that upon outside of your writing. So please....just stop. I promise you that among all the others hear that truly understand the situation at hand, your responses will simply draw more criticism and further expose your lack of understanding on what i was getting at.

If you need further evidence of who I really am I'm more than happy to indulge, if not, then lets just let this water flow under the bridge I'm trying to build and let it die.

...Why are you even here? You're from Sacramento, CA. That's not in WGL. I'm smart enough to know THAT one, but apparently not you.
