It's a New England Winter!!

This is actually exactly how i like winter to be. A foot of snow one day, half a week of miserable salty icy aftermath, then it all goes away. Just long enough for you to fully appreciate each phase.

Lol....

Lol....

Well, for those of you that didn't know, Colin and I took a class over last summer for the National Weather Service to be trained "weather spotters"....and, as such, we recieve all kinds of warnings posted to our emails WAAYYY ahead of any advancing storm. They have already sent me a "heads up" about Weds "storm"...could get half a foot evidently.

And, as an aside, I spent about 2 hours putting my fathers Xmas gift together for him....check it out:

http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/cb.aspx?a=494882

I think he had a mild heart attack when he opened the box on Xmas to look at the directions...it's one of those "universal" fit items that they jam 6-7 different sizes of assorted clamps, lag bolts and the like in the box to assemble it. And, for someone who mistakenly put windshield washer fluid in his radiator, I guess you could understand his trepidation at the mere thought of assembling it!! It's a pretty nifty addition to anyone who HATES dealing with having to squint through blowing snow while you're snowblowing your driveway- I know he was psyched when it was finally assembled.

i need one of those for my snowblower!
getting pelted in the...er..not gonna type that, it will get used against me.
how about this..it sucks when the wind blows the snow back at you.
thats better.

and i just got in from washing the nitro again.

Snowblower "shroud"

Snowblower "shroud"

If anyone is interested in that shroud for their snowblower, let me know- I get it at a discounted price through that website, as I belong to their "buyers club".

My routine for snow removal is a little odd, as Colin and I have a "contract" with our Landlord for snow removal of the porches, sidewalks....everything EXCEPT the two apartment buildings parking areas, which are plowed.

We basically will use our 75$ Craigslist "find" snowthrower (an awesome commercial grade 2 stroke model) to snowblow in between the cars-

Then work down to the sidewalks and the front walkway on our apartment complex-

Then we work down to the second apartment complex and shovel the 2nd floor porch before snowblowuing the sidewalks and the front porch.

That snowthrower has made me like 400% profit over the last 2 years...some rich dude in Longmeadow sold it for 75$ after he bought it for 200$ at an auction for the Springfield housing authority in 2007 and found "it's not running". All it needed was a simple tune up...ironically the cheapest place I found the sparkplug for it was through the Sportsmans guide as it uses the same spark plug as an Ice Auger (ice fishing).

I bought one of the snowblower cabs two years ago. All my neighbors called me a wimp...but I was out there whenever I wanted to be and it made the job easy. Within the year, almost all of my neighbors had a cab on their blowers.

Now I want to put some small LED lights on the top of the mouth to project even more light down low infront of the blower. The light on the console is pretty lame.

Hmmmm...

Hmmmm...

Mike-

I think it's pretty much a universal fit....with all those extra brackets and such, I'm sure it would fit with some tinkering. I mean they even tell you how to install it onto one of the two stroke snowthrowers that I have.

My dad reported that the shroud worked as advertised on New Years eve when he was out there....

My car is supposed to be black...
this is after a five hour drive to vermont, in a snow storm. I was very impressed with the preformance.
