It's a New England Winter!!

well this storm was nuts here on the south shore...it wouldnt stop snowing!!! not sure how the rest of the north east fared because i was plowing for 29 straight hours! without a drop of caffine too, boy was i a zombie haha

roads yesterday pretty much had a layer of snow on them all day. this morning they had been cleared but it wasn't completely clear. highway had been salted and was clear. still didn't stop a few from going 55~60 in a 65 zone in the left lane ....

Yeah they like to wait til the storm is absolutely done before plowing around here.

I'm curious about everyone's snow removal routine.
How do you tackle the mounds of snow?

Our routine after properly suiting up:
  1. Unlock all entryways and turn on all outside lights
  2. Shovel our way out of the garage door, and create a path in front of the garage bays
  3. Open one garage bay and remove snowblower (close door afterward)
  4. Clear a path between cars to the end of the driveway
  5. As Mike continues to snowblow the driveway, I start the car that's not doubleparked and start clearing the snow off of it
  6. Once he has the driveway clear in front of that car, he moves it out of the way and clears up the mess I made :D
  7. As he's doing that, I'm clearing off the other two cars and getting them started
  8. Then he moves them over to the cleared side of the driveway and proceeds to clearing the other half
  9. As he's doing that, I shovel the front walkway, then I shovel the walkway to the shed, to the deck stairs and also shovel half of the deck (the part that leads to the door)
  10. After Mike is done playing musical cars ;) and the driveway is clear, he helps me whereever I'm at, and finishes the other half of the deck.
  11. And when we're all done with that, we salt/sand everything.
If we're lucky, the plow comes by before we start it all.

fun fun

It usually goes like this for us -

Shovel the front walk, shovel back of the driveway.
Clear the Vue of snow.
Shovel between the cars, shovel on the yard- side of the Vue.
Pack the Mustang in.
Shovel the entrance to the driveway.
Salt/sand the walk, driveway.
Wait two hours
Shovel out the additional 3' of snow, slush, and salt the plow displaced from the street back into our driveway.
Curse the plow drivers.
Go back inside.
Throw snow at/on the cats.
Watch insanity ensue.

when i lived with my parents the drill wasn't to different from what you listed kim.

dig out to the garage and in front of the garage to get the snow blowers out. clear the bottom of the driveway so we can get the cars out of the way and then clear up the rest. We then get the sidewalk and make a path around to the basement door. we normally ended up clearing the neighbors driveway also.

No garage :(.
No snow blower :(

1. Clear cars and start them
2. shovel sidewalk and front porch
3. shovel out cars
4. shovel driveway
5. shovel 3 feet of hard packed ice/snow compliments of the plow
6. continue shoveling
7. shovel the driveway...again
8. drink
9. see #5 and repeat

Fortunately I have a small driveway. But unfortunately I have stupid neighbors that don't follow the street parking ban. So the plow has to go around their cars and in the process, ALL the snow ends up on our side of the street.

Hahah! Echo managed to sneak out once when we were in Somerville. He got onto the front porch where there was a good 3" covering of snow. He didn't last long before he started clawing at the window to be let in. Hahahah

LMAO

We try to lure the cats onto the deck. Sometimes they are brave and they come out to sniff around.
I have a few pics of it here

1. Shovel my ass off
2. Shovel my ass off a bit more
3. Shovel my ass off
4. Finish shoveling my ass off
5. Go do donuts

You must have a HUGE ass!

Mine's not too bad as both cars completley fill the driveway.
All I have to do is shovel the plow crap and back out the cars and clear them off in the street.

- Park car at end of of driveway night before
- Open front door and shovel stairs down to driveway
- Warm car up
- Shovel area in front of car
- Scrap a window on each side of car
- Throw car into reverse and "plow" behind it
- Finish shoveling driveway parts not covered by car
- Clean car off in the street
- Make little snowmen and cover my friends car.

not much snow here but it's effin cold...the cat was p.o.'d I wouldn't let him out. I'm sure he'll get me back by clawing up more woodwork today. Perhaps I'll get a pic of my filthy veehickle @ lunch.

All those pics look like here. But, it has been to cold here for salt/sand to melt anything off the road so it has been nice and slick for the past week.

that's where we are temp-wise... it hurts to breathe

this is from my office...no one's dumb enough to be on the ice rink right now, not a ton of snow but the roads are completely iced over

Yeah, we got dumped on on the South Shore. At the end, it turned to rain, which made things even more interesting.

I lightly cleaned off the T-Car and then the Fox Cougar, fired them up, and wheeled them across the driveway and pushed the snow off of them into the snowbank. I then cleared the spots they were in, and put them back. It took much longer than this, mind you. I had the T-Car running for about 90 minutes, and the Cougar about 60. What a great car the Lincoln is in the snow! With 120 pounds of ballast in the trunk, it really hunkers down. Steer with the throttle and the steering wheel, and cruise around easily.
