I just picked up a 98 Contour from a family member. She did not keep up with much of the maintenance on the car. I know for sure that she never replaced the MTX tranny fluid.
So I am planning on doing that one very soon using the Royal Purple Synchromax and the how-to I found here.
So here's the question: I've read about using a "flush kit" for getting the old Mercon out. I've also read here that you can use ATF+3 or ATF+4 for the same purpose. You drive around for a few miles with it and then drain it again. Is any of this worth it or should I just drain the Mercon as best as possible and put in the RP?
Oh yeah, do I need that friction modifier from Ford if I am going to use the RP? I don't think so, but I need to know for sure. Thanks!
