alright, so the last time i went the best time a ran was a 17.304 @ 79.90. since then, i've realized that resetting the computer helps A LOT after doing any mods. I've just done it this past week, and has made a hell of a difference. so now my buddy and i have a little bet. he has a 2004 ION coupe with a 2.2 Ecotec, 5-speed, CAI and cat back exhaust. i have the Inake, punched cat and straight pipe w/ glass pack. i'm thinking about optimizing the TB and gapping the plugs a little more, about .055 or .060 instead of .050. He thinks he's gonna beat me by about a full second, when last night he couldnt pull away from me. So, what do u guys think, am i toast or do i stand a chance against the ION?

well according to some research, IONs are supposed to run a 16.2 @ 85mph stock, but then again, he's not the most experienced with racing. I'm also picking up a TB tomrrow from the JY to optimize it.

Judging by some acceleration videos that may be on youtube, I think when you race him you should run out the gears to redline rather than shifting early.

for some reason, the rev limiter would kick on before then, but since resetting the computer, it hasnt had that problem.

also on a side note, i'm getting MUCH better gas mileage, like, 37-40mpgs.

Edit: its raining like hell here, but i'm going to the JY to get my TB today and i'm gonna start working on it tomorrow. if no one objects to pics, i may post some later.

You sure do have a lot of videos on youtube. I was surprised to see the 0-60 vid where it appeared to do it in 7 seconds. Is that video sped up at all (be honest) because in some of your others, it's more like 9 seconds. Makes me wonder what my SVTs could do, especially the 3L.

That is genious. I'm going to go take a video of my car accelerating down the big ass hill down the street that they use for the soap box derby. 5 second 0-60, here I come!

Then I'll do a video response...

Whether you reset the computer or not, over time, it'll still adjust for any mods according to what the engine is doing.

If the 4-cylinder coil pack is anywhere near as strong as the V6 one, .060 on your plugs won't be a problem. I picked up 4hp/4tq over my entire rev range going from a .050 gap to a .060 gap. The gap increase will probably help you much more than the opt'd TB.

I know, the video was down hill, actually it was down a mountain.

i think the stock coil pack is strong enough, but i also wanna get a better pack to gap it to .70. i think it is the Demon coil pack that u can do that with. the TB is a :censored::censored::censored::censored::censored: so far to optimize, i cant get the tps to come off. any tips?

ford used loctite on those bolts. just gotta use some balls man. they'll come loose. if you cant get them loose, find someone who is bigger than you and they will. as for optimizing the TB, you wont feel too much of a difference. only about one HP or so

Get a dremel and cut into the bolts slighty. That way you can place a huge long flat head into them and turn them.

pgt recomended this to me. It works every time.

Oh man i want to get some popcorm for this one

I've always used a small pair of vice grips on the TPS bolts. I plan to optimize my Mystique's TB at some point. It doesn't seem too bad to do to the 4-cyl tb, not really much different than the v6 tb's and i've done my fair share of those... :D
