ok, I know this is simple but I ran into a problem I never ran into before.

first I replace the fuel filter on my mystique yesterday morning. I pull the fuel filter fuse under the hood and changed the filter. I got alittle gas out of the line, no big deal.

now I try to change the fuel filter on my SeVT-T. I do the same thing, I pull the fuse and crank and let the engine run til it dies. I then crank it a few times to make sure. Just like I did in the morning with the other car. Well i go to pull the line off and I get fuel spraying out with some force. I quickly put the line back on as to not dump to much fuel out. I tried cranking it a few more times and the same deal. I even unplugged the pump to releave the pressure when I cranked it over.

I know some fuel will come out of the lines but I have never seen it under pressure.

oh the difference between the 2 cars was the mystique was just about out of gas and the contour had about 3/4s of a tank.

I do have the walbro fuel pump and 42# injectors if that matters.

So what is going on?

Maybe your filter was so gunked up that it was acting like a stopper until you removed it? Just put a clamp on the hose upstream of the filter and pull it off.

filter shouldn't be that old. I wrote a date on it when i changed it last but it has been a few years. also when I changed the fuel pump the bottom of the tank was pretty clean.

The same thing happened a few years ago on my '95. The fuel sprayed right into my friends eyes & face when we were in florida at the local autozone when on vacation :blackeye: - He said it only burns for a little bit !

Hmm I dont know why it would hold pressure like that. I just pull the cap and hit the schrader valve for a second to make it hiss.

In the how-to section at the cougar forum their is a PERFECT way to change the fuel filter... i never opened my hood once, or took off my gas cap etc... only tools i had was 2 socket wrenchs a 16 ounce red cup and... thats it, i don't have the link but it's 100% there for sure.

yeah but when I pulled either line I got fuel under pressure come shooting out of the line, not a little dribble ...

the fuel that came out of the line filled probably ¼ to ½ of the red cup... you know the cups usually used at keggers... just slide one line off first put directly in the cup let it drain real quick, while doing that just hold the fuel filter up so gravity will stop it from coming out... than tilt the filter into the cup and boom lines are clear... and i changed the filter probably 5 minutes after i came back from a pepboys to grab the filter itself... maybe you have a significant amount of fuel because you have the returnless? idk but 12oz cup you'll be fine. just don't smoke a cig until you wash your hands... well you can but idk if i'd recommend it.

yes i changed the fuel filter on my other car in about 5 minutes that morning. little to no fuel came out.

I also have some of those plastic caps that come on the fram fuel filter I put on to hold the fuel.

this car is a return fuel system car and the fuel will still under pressure with the force it came out with. which is the part I don't understand because I have never had that happen before.

I also changed the filter on my SVT other other week, which is returnless and I got little to no gas out of it either. but then again I think there was a quarter tank or less of gas at the time ...

yea the low gas in the tank has nothing to do with it i think i had a fulkl tank but now i change my fuel filter every 9-12 months so my motor can pur like a kitten

with a clogged fuel filter you run a hot pump and poor gas mpg's, as well as lose in performance... it has alot to do with it. gas makes the car go

Just recently I replaced my girlfriends FF on her Focus after 125k hoping it would help with her mileage or performance but it didnt make any kind of difference. Kind of upsetting when there are all sorts of sharp edges up in there and then gas leaks down on the.
