Fall Meet

IMO, we should do something a bit more exciting:shrug:. Sturbridge was really fun and stuff, but I'd like to mix it up. Fright Fest was going pretty good until the old farts started talking about apples and scenic routes:laugh:

hey you whippersnapper, quit trying to change us.
:p

I was joking about the strip club earlier.
The NECEG Fall Meet has always been about the foliage and New England family events.
A New England autumn event, a scenic cruise with gut-twisting curves that play to the Contour's strengths, and a pleasant end at a landmark restaurant or home BBQ traditionally define the Fall Meet.

I hold this combination in high regard, personally. Perhaps it is because Fall '02 was my first NECEG meet. But it is also often the last 'large' meet of the year, a great way to reacquaint and wind down after an eventful summer. The cruise also nicely exercises the Contours before they sleep for the winter (those of us that park them) and potentially incorporates that thrill you are looking for.

I think VT is a little too far north. The mountain twisties were certainly fun, but not as many people were able to go due to the distance. I'm definitely open to anything anywhere, but central MA / CT seems to be where the largest NECEG population is currently.

I just took a ride out on the Mohawk trail. It's quite scenic and twisty out at the far end towards North Adams.

Robin has always wanted to stop into the Golden Eagle up at the hairpin turn.

I lived out that way for about a month 13 years ago, and head out that way once or twice a year to see a friend.

Too bad it's so far of a drive for so many people, or I'd be all over that for a cruise.

Rhode Island is good. Only a couple hours for the MA/CT folks, and only 3-4 for even eastern NY or VT folks. I could get ahold of Jeremy and see what he thinks.

If we are going to Newport for the car show, Maybe we can try to have a fall meet to Providence or something unless everyone wants to do the fall meet as the show?

Does anyone want to do a fall meet to the Big E, It's always fun??

How llong is it around? If it gives us time to plan, that's not such a bad idea:laugh:

Dammit!... I picked up that smilie habit of yours:mad:

I'm surprised you have never heard of it Kim!

Boston only started really getting advertising for it in the last 4 or 5 years. I don't think it's made it's mark all the way to Manchester yet.

As a general rule, as far as MA goes, anything west of Worcester might as well be in another state compared to Boston.

Yeah, I know what you mean about that, but seeing as it's The Eastern States Expositition I thought more people hard heard about it. Maybe it's cause you're not farmers lol!

Man, you guys are all over the map.

None of this bush league amusement park stuff. And we'll have a better time without sluts of ill repute. Hey, I like pretty girls as much as the next guy, but they lose something when they've got more sheet time than the Mariott housekeeping staff.

How about a nice drive through the woods with a stop for lunch?

To this end, let me propose a route. 121 is a terrific road that winds its way through Auburn, Chester, and Sandown, NH, and has lots of varying terrain with the occasional opportunity to carry some speed. It is a beautiful road with lots of country scenery. If we did it east to west, there's a great little place called Holidays at the junction of 121 and 101. If we did it west to east, there's a LongHorn Steakhouse on the Plaistow / Haverhill line.

For a western option, a lap around the Quabbin Reservoir is a good time. 32A to 122 and down the west side on 202.

The Quabbin is part of the route that Brapple was talking about when he mentioned doing skunk's route. Also, like he said, a scenic cruise and good eats has always been the format.

I don't want to do NH, and I'm sure the majority of people here would prefer not to either. At least not this year.

And agree with what bishop said about anything west of Worcester.
