Fake converter

yet k&n doesnt claim nearly as much hp and the margain in between possible hp is usually less than 5...this is 40..but keep defending this product.

I've seen K&N claim 30hp on an intake that people couldnt get more than 10hp out of so its not a totally different situation. I think these guys are being half sarcastic anyway.

sounds like theyre just trying to make fun

Agreed. They're simply offering a product and having some fun while covering themselves legally. K&N on the other hand makes gain claims and then gets huffy when people get upset they arent seeing similar numbers.

i would make fun if i owned a prank shop or somthing. true they know more about they're product then any of us do. but 10-50 hp is a big claim.

K&N gets those crazy HP claims by doing 3rd gear pulls instead of 4th gear pulls on the dyno (using gearing to their advantage) and they also do the pulls after completely clearing the long term fuel trims (LTFTs). This makes the stock afr slightly leaner which is how they get the power.

I tested this with my CTS-V and with no tuning done, just bolting on the CAI, and clearing the LTFTs I got within 1whp of their claim.

Im either gutting the cats or thinking about getting those....although i heard gutting a working cat will result in loss of power :confused:

why dont you just cut the cat out and weld a pipe in place of it? and gutting the cats in the headers will result in an increase in power.

Thats interesting i never knew that.

If someone lives in a state where they have to deal with inspections, this may help them pass. The visual inspection at least, they'd still need to have the car in proper running condition, to pass the smog inspections.

what if I gut both cats except the main one and just weld a pipe in them so in case of inspection or something......(not that i have ever been pulled over or anything But for safety)

Well if you gut the cuts in the headers, or "precats" and you just weld a pipe in place of the main cat. Then if they look for cats you can just tell them you have 2 in the headers

Bingo, you will gain power over stock, but you will lose power compared to having a test pipe in place of the cat. The gutted cat causes a pressure drop which causes turbulence in your exhaust gasses....on a CSVT you would only be looking at a ~1-2 hp difference between gutted cat and test pipe.

I'm actually going to replace my Kook's high flow cats with a set of these fake cats and see if I pick anything up. My Kook's cats are completely burned out because I turned off cat overtemp protection in my tune so it will be interesting to see if I pick up any HP/TQ on the dyno as well as a sound difference (should be less raspy).
