F the police

sorry off topic there. cops dont really care about exhausts around here unless its really obvious. my boyfriend got a warning for the exhaust on one of his old crotch rockets last fall. I dont think that was the original purpose for the pull over but there was enough to warn him about on the bike itself that the original intent was lost haha.

but loud exhaust tickets/aftermarket exhaust tickets are almost unheard of here unless you happen across a desperate cop.

I've gotten stopped by the local cop in my blinker of a town for my 24" Thrush Glasspack on the XJ for not having a muffler and noise pollution...but me being the smart ass I am, I showed the lady the box it came in. It says in big bold letters "GLASSPACK MUFFLER." She proceeded to tell me to have a nice day.

I wonder how she'll take to me hollowing out my catalytic converter.
Just don't tell the Jeep guys I said that...

Is the Jeep culture typically environmentally conscious?

The one I frequent, NAXJA, is extremely environmentally conscious.

(North American XJ Association)

They're against illegal trail riding, polluting, and cutting new trails illegally. A lot of the times, they volunteer to fix trails in their local region if some ignorant people rip up the land and what not. They also will volunteer to clean up garbage people might leave behind that may have been camping...or just dumpers in general.

They are unheard of, but I wouldn't call them "desperate". They could legally pull you over to make initial contact because of the muffler and proceed from there.

Hell, they can pull you over for something hanging on your rearview mirror. "Obstruction of view" is how it is put.

Lemme just put it this way, put ANYTHING on your car that isn't from the stealerships, and they could probably find a cause to pull you over.

I've been pulled over in metamora, east peoria, and washington for loud exhaust(back in the early '00s when I was in high school). Once in my ranger, and twice in my achieva W41. But no tickets...only warnings for me. So you could be right...I don't know of anyone that has received a ticket for loud exhaust in this area. Heck, there were a half dozen hicks in my class with straight pipe chevy trucks. Never heard of any issues with them....but they were football players...

I agree with xchang as well, likely they just pulled me over to check me out.
