I recently finished editing and organizing all the Contour specs I could get my hands on.

http://mechdb.com/index.php/Ford_Contour_specifications

This is a wiki site so if you see any that are incorrect feel free correct them (providing an explanation with a change is helpful though). Anyone got any others they'd like to submit? There's lots of other helpful info on the site as well.

few things I saw when reading over everything.

the Type F atx fluid for the power steering was a 95 only spec I believe. later years call out Dextron/Mercon atx fluid.

spark plug gap for the duratec is 0.054. the Zetec is 0.050

never heard of 10w-30 being a specified oil weight

althought the book says the oil capacity of the duratec is 5.8 qts its safer to run 6 to 6.5 qts

for rear drum brakes there are two sizes, a 8 inch and 9 inch drum

I have question while we are on this subject. I have always seen the specs for the rear discs as solid disk, but on both my 97 and 98 contour the rear disks were most definitely vented.

as far as I know the contour never had a solid rear disk.

smack me for saying this; BUT, i think the Haynes Mannual says 5w-30 or 10w30 or oil.

i know a lot of people on here do not like that mannual, so I don't know if its correct or not. I'll have to look at mine later

Alright I updated all of those specs based on all your recommendations. Anyone have more suggestions on things to add/change to make it more accurate and complete? Btw, does anyone here want to add anything to it? I'm trying to get this wiki started, you can even add writeup of your build or anything that's automotive related.

Very cool I was gonna do the same thing at some point. I have lists I have been creating in the back of my binder, mainly of every torque spec. When I have some time I can cross reference some stuff just to double check. I wish you had this up a few months ago!

Haha nice, mine were on paper originally as well. In the form of a Haynes manual ;). But I try not to mention Haynes too much because I don't want them going after me for anything, not that they can anyways since all the specs have been reorganized and edited.

I gotta say, going through and writing their specs really opens up your mind to how sloppy their publishing efforts are. I've corrected so many things it's not even funny. Duplicates, similar but slightly different values in some chapters, odd organization, etc.

When you get around to adding/editing it, help yourself :). Glad you like it.

The spark plug listing is all wrong. 95 V6 used a double platinum plug for replacement. I can't remember the correct Motorcraft part number, and the Motorcraft number has changed anyway. I do know what you have listed never was right. The correct plug is a 32 heat range and ends with a PP.

96 and newer uses a fine wire plug from the factory, again with a 32 heat range. The only V6 that I'm aware of as specifying the 22 heat range with the 00 SVT which has higher compression. Many owners found the plug to be too cold and switched to 32 anyway.

The current correct part numbers for the V6 for Autolite plugs (the company that makes Motorcraft plugs for Ford) is APP104 for the V6 with double platinum or XP104 for fine wires. Either is fully interchangeable. My slight preference is the XP.

On the 4 cylinder, I seem to remember that they used a 22 heat range, but I'm not certain. Your listing tries to show the factory installed plugs which are not available in the after market. They are single platinum, but two of them have the platinum button on the center wire and two of them on the side wire. At this age, there is no need to continue that now useless bit of information. The replacement plug is either a double platinum or a fine wire. The current Autolite catalog shows XP5364 as the correct 4 cylinder plug.

My heart was in the right place. I tried to look up the current Motorcraft Spark Plug Part Numbers, but the Motorcraft site went down in the middle of my attempts with an error message of "no back end server available".

I did learn some though. They show the current part number for 95 to 97 4 cylinder Contours as AYFS22FM and the 97 and up as AZFS32FE.

For the 95 to 97 V6 the current part number is AGSF32FM. I was not able to learn the 98 and newer part number, including the possible different number for the late 99 and 00 SVT.

I hope this helps.

FIND: Haha yeah that's probably the first car forum I ever joined, years ago when I first started to work on cars. That place is so dead though, it's a shame.

Big Jim: Good find! I updated it based on the part numbers you gave me. When you find the v6 98+ plugs let me know so I can add that in as well.

Btw, in case anyone hasn't noticed, I added the cylinder and terminal order pictures as well ;).

I strongly recommend that you add the Autolite numbers too, as that is what many of us use.

Yeah, I joined it somewhere around 10 years ago, and then stayed off it for 5 years, and recently rejoined to find that now it is full of fail, and kids that dont know the first thing about cars or want to ghetto rig everything. You know me on there, I was the one who was against the spinning intercooler concept.

Big Jim, I have added the numbers you have provided to the specifications table. Can you please confirm that they are correct. Are the Motorcraft or the Autolite part numbers available for the 98+ V6 Contours?

Somehow you have Motorcraft part numbers for both Motorcraft and Autolite.

I checked the 98 V6 listing today, so here is what I found:

Motorcraft

4 cylinder 95-97 AYSF22FM
4 cylinder 98-00 AZFS32FE

V6 all years AGFS32FM

Autolite

4 cylinder all years XP5364

V6 all years XP104

Big_Jim, the specs have been updated with the part numbers you have provided.

Does anyone have any other specs they would like to recommend to be included? Or any other good Contour articles? I'm trying to expand the site to the point where people will be more willing to edit content, because so far all the 150+ articles in there have been edited/written by me. Starting a wiki is pretty hard.
