Contour specs (fluids, torque settings, ohm readings, etc)

was at a junkyard this past summer and came across a pre 98 with solid rear disc. was looking to use the car as a parts car for a rear disc swap, but bought Tempo parts instead. So yea, some contours came with a solid rear disc.

Big_Jim, thanks, I'm glad you like it and appreciate your input on extra information that was added to it.

I think I may be a little confused as to what is being mentioned as solid disc? Can anyone elaborate? I thought we were talking about differences between vented and solid rotors? I feel pretty stupid now.

Also, while we're on the topic. Are either of the Contour engines interference or not? I'm trying to compile a list of all intereference engines as well and I don't want to leave any out. If you know of any that aren't on this list:

Even if they aren't Contour or Ford at all, I would appreciate if you could notify me.

The Contour NEVER had solid discs, front or rear, from the factory. Either you didn't get a good look at it or someone changed them (extremely unlikely).

Could someone elaborate more on the whole brakes thing? I'm still a bit lost, as I mentioned in my previous post.

i'll see if i can get out that way to get a pic, but i know it had solid discs on it.

Oh so basically you guys are saying that the rears were always a design with vents in between the two rotor surfaces, like the front. I see now. That is quite strange because almost all vehicles in this price range that I ever see with rotors in the back are always solid disc.

I can't seem to find solid rotors for it anywhere, so if one did come equipped I can't imagine where someone would go to get them replaced. Though you claim to have seen them and the Haynes manual mentions it too, odd. Maybe it was something that was only produced during the first year and then got changed?

Btw, does anyone have similar specs like that of the SVT so I can add them in as well? Or any other good Contour articles?

Anyone have any how-tos they've written or read that they would like to recommend I add in to the Contour section?

You listed MTX fluid capacity at 8.9 quarts in the SVT spec section, not sure of the official number but its closer to 3.0 quarts if I'm not mistaken

The MTX fluid capacity for everything up to late 99 or early 00 is 2.7 quarts. After the change point, it is 2.2 quarts.

Good catch. That should be corrected. If someone knows the change point for sure that would be helpful. It seems like it was slightly into 00, like about February.

Aha, that is a good catch indeed. I just corrected that. Should I do the same modification in the general specs? I wonder what made them change spec, I don't think they actually modified the MTX-75 tranny did they?
