Hi, I was just thinking today while watchine German Touring car racing...which I love to watch along with British and australia touring. But anyway I LOVE the way thhose cars look and have seen a couple clones in my area like a Cadillac CTS and BMW on the road...I mean paint decals window nets etc.... So I looked on Google for Contour Race cars....NONE...BUT there are a few Mondeo Touring type race cars. So my question is.

What would people thing about a Mondeo Touring car clone made out of a CSVT? Paint, decals, wing splitters etc...but where it says "Mondeo" on the car put "contour"? I have always wanted to do a Touring car clone but never had a car that was even close to a real one till now. I just love the ones I see around here and the looks they get.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. I know everyone wont like the idea but if we all liked the same things we'd ALL have the same color SVT's right? So why not be different. Thanks all for your time, and eager to hear the feedback.

I cant post pics but if you google there are 2 different Mondeo touring cars...Blue and Yellow and a Silver and Blue..which I like the best...

Didn't look very hard if you never saw the bondurant cars or the mirko.

Have a read through this thread and you will see a few of them.

There are also the PPG pace cars

Of course they are mostly unmodded

and finally there is the saleen contour.

The mirko contour is probably what you have in mind though.

of course "cloning" a car out to a race car or touring car pretty much just means putting a touring wing on the back, a splitter on the front some lowering springs, big wheels, then covering it with decals like it was a honda.

of course, you could go all the way, strip the interior, put in a cage, upgrade brakes, true dual exhaust, suspension, find a good dog box and mate it up.....

only cooler:cool: because it's not a Honda:blackeye:

Don't burn a real csvt to do this. The guys that made the real race cars pulled out almost everything that made the car special and replaced it anyway. The only things left that made them csvts were the powertrain. So just take a POS contique or deo and gut that, drop in a 3.0, put a good suspension on it, good clutch, good brakes, and there ya go.

Trust me I had the same thoughts about setting up my silfro for Targa NL, and then the thought quickly turned to saving a GL or SE from the crusher for a project like that. There is no reason to ruin a rare car like a csvt.

he would still be using the body parts that make a CSVT cool.... bumpers side skirts.

Guys put 3 liters in CSVTs all the time. Those cars are no more original than one that would be modded like that. Upgrading the wheels, suspension, and brakes are the route a LOT of CSVT owners go, and are acceptable and most of the time desirable among the community.

Only real changes that would have to be made beyond that to "clone" a race car would be to add decals and a rear wing. Decals are removable, and you can replace the trunk lid and never know there was a rear wing there. Even a roll cage could be later removed (with a bit of work) and interior readded. Trick is not to throw stuff out or destroy it.

Either way, there arent to many guys around keeping their CSVTs 100% original, low mileage, garage queens because of their collectible value. Especially since there is no collectible value, except to enthusiasts, or with certain "special" contours, like the mirkos, bondurants, PPG cars, or the Saleen.

lol if you ask me, that's a good reason to keep it original, and save some other contique from the crusher.

I keep forgetting how popular the mondeo really is over there.

It is like the polar opposite of here.
Mondeo = perfect car in europe
Contour = gets mistaken for an escort and people call it a grandma car in the US
