ok well i had a idea not to long ago if it would be possible to put a evo 8 4g63 motor into a contour it would need a lot of modifcation maybe even making it awd but idk it would need a lot of work just wanted to see what your guys thoughts where on this

not worth the time or money....you will need a ton of both. i doubt this will work anyway. why not do 3l swap?

i know it will take a lot of time a money but im the type of person the likes to be diffrent and plus you can make so much more power out of a 4g63

it would be easier if you started with a Zetec since the engine bays are remarkably similar. IIRC Hector posted a picture of his Evo engine bay and his old Contour engine bay as a comparison at some point.

you can make more power out of a zetec than you can use in a contour.

What are your fabrication skills? What are your mechanical skills? What does your bank account look like?

about 50% of newbs on here make posts about this stuff(v8 conversions, 3000gt swap, this swap). no one ever does it. please please please be that one newb that actually does something

lol I knew this would be a noobie posting. I say go for it if you have the means to and funds for it.

lol hey man, atleast he didn't suggest doing it to an SVT.

If he could do an AWD swap or put a 4g63 in one of these cars, no one would care if it was an SVT, a zetec, or something pulled from a scrapyard.

I can't count the number of noobs who come in saying they want to do such and such conversion to their contour, own it forever, drive around on bald tires cause they cant afford new ones, do nothing with their car, and just stop posting after a while.

And they always say, "Yeah I know it would be tough to do or expensive, but I am the kinda guy who has to do something different"

Eventually I am gonna have to pick up a junk contour and do a rwd V8 swap just so there can be a sticky for noobs to read to see how it is done.... At least then they wont make threads promising to be the first, or they can see it and realize how much they would have to do to actually do it, and then choose a more attainable goal.

But I just don't have the money to get subframes made, nor do I have the confidence in my welding to do so :( Though I now have a good donor engine and trans, and a rear end that could be made to work.

well this is just a idea at the moment but its something i would love to do but it will be a while so just watch for a post from me in the future i just wanted to see if you guys though it was possible and i can do everything its just money but it will happen i can promise you all that but i allso have to fix a core support and work all around on my contour so ya

honestly, imo anything is possible.... you just need the 4 most important things to do such a job, Time, Money, Tools, and Skills/know how....

but all fantasizing aside here, why not just buy an evo, or a 3000GT, or another platform that can actually handle all the power and fabrication that would be involved with this project? i mean i get it that some of you want to be "Special" and "The First One to Do it" but really, why not just do a FI 3L, and then spend about 1/4 of the amount of money trying to fab up new idea's to help the contique platform actually get the power to the concrete?

i donno, i've only been a member for like what... 4 months now, and i've already seen like 10 kids ask pretty much that exact same question and i've kept my thoughts to myself because i realize that probably every single person that asked is just fantasizing and felt the urge to ask what it would take knowing that they will most likely NEVER get the chance to take on such a project...

 i donno, i think i got carried away... but oh well....

ya i hear ya but its a idea and yes it wont be done for a while i was siting here thinking about how much moneyit woul dbe to buy a evo 4g63 and rebuild it or rebuild the zetec i have and turbo it to do the 4g63 it would be around 5k+ and to do the zetec it would be around 2000-3000 to build and trubo and i can get some turbo parts off my freinds so at this point in time sence im still 19 and dont have a good paying job to support the 4g63 build i think i will build the zetec for now but like i said earlyer i promise the community i will do a 4g63 swap sometime in the future just look for my post =p

I don't think you realize how much a project like this costs. Certainly more than a turbocharged 3.0L swap.

Custom subframe, custom axles, custom bellhousing, standalone fuel management system, not to mention all the other little bells and whistles like custom shift linkage, custom hoses for the cooling system, custom exhaust and intake components, etc.

I hate to break it to you, but after being on CEG for more than 10 years and seeing every post like this, I know that this project isn't happening. :(

ta the numbers i put up there were rebuild and so fab but idk how much fag atm but ya i know how much it would be but it doesnt need a stand alone fuel management system i dont think

try more like $5K+ to rebuild and turbo the Zetec (Ive done it, i know) and $10K+ to swap in the 4g63 (which you will need a stand-alone system for since the Ford PCM doesnt know what to do with the engine).

So you think the wiring harness from the Contour will work on a different motor or vise versa? Absolutely not. Pin outs are completely different as well as connectors. I'm sure each motor has sensors that the other doesn't have or one platform has more of (i.e potentially O2 sensors). Sounds like a wiring nightmare if you are going to try and modify an existing harness. Even a universal standalone isn't a 'drop in" by any means.
