Well down here in the states over the past two years gas went from $1.50/gal US to $.350/gal US. That just isn't right and there is no reasonable reason for it. I believe they are just trying to see how far it can be pushed befor there is an out cry about it.
I disagree with you. I have talked about this topic so much it hurts. This is my take on it... My own rant, not attacking you or anyone, but this is how I see it:
Name one thing you have bought your entire life that hasn't increased in price. Milk, water, groceries, produce. Inflation boosts the costs of everyday products up more and more as the years go by.
Labor costs change. People get raises.
People think that oil/gas just comes out of the ground and BOOM, it's ready to go into a car.
For one minute, think about this with me.Just hear me out.
Oil/gas found in the middle of nowhere. How are you going to pump it? How are you going to transport it? Surely you'll need fuel haulers or a pipeline. Once you pump it, where are you going to send it to get refined for use? How are you going to pay for all this transport and refining? How are you going to pay for your geologists/geophysicists fee, your drillers/helpers/cooks/camp managers/line-cutters etc? What about supplies to the camps for those people who stay out in camps for weeks/months on end during exploration programs?
People hardly ever think about this stuff. But THAT is what you see in the price. Everyone wants gas, everyone needs it, but we neeeeeeeeeeever ***** that tomatoes are 60 dollars a case in the winter. We neeeeeeeeeeever complain that even MILK WAS MORE EXPENSIVE THAN GAS FOR YEARS! Now we've got our panties in a knot, trying to "damn the man" with all these price increases.
The demand for oil and gas has gotten so high that companies are scrambling to find new prospects. Pipelines to carry fuel take years to make- refineries currently in production are over-capacity. It's not that there isn't enough fuel to go around- but companies have to beg to get their stuff refined through other companies to get it out on the market. Refineries and pipelines are *extremely* expensive. Taxes that companies pay on their oil and gas are sometimes half the cost of the barrel.
I think that if more people considered what went into the oil and gas industry, they would be more lenient about the price. But I can't expect that everyone will see my perspective, or agree with it. It is what it is, and to each their own. This is just my two cents
