Car dying

Well I tried it and it did not help. I ran the car for probably 30 minutes and drove around a bit. It would fall on face at mid to high rpms. The fuel pressure while the car was running would only go to 32 psi. It sounds like this should be around 65psi or so. I guess I'll be taking the back seat out tomorrow.....

Looks I will be too since I fell asleep when I got home from work. Maybe we both get new pumps...

That is what I am thinking. I am just not sure if I need a returnless or not. I am going to wait until I pull the seat out to check what is installed now. I am thinking of just going with an autozone special instead of trying to modify a FSVT pump. I just want to get it on the road and the car really is not worth much anymore. I just want another year out of it so the autozone is probably the way to go in my situation.

I am looking at the autozone website and I see there is also a fuel tank pressure sensor. Not sure what that is for. I hope it ends up being the pump after shelling the money out for it. As I mentioned I checked the pressure before the filter and during prime it was less than 30. Is there anything else I can do at this point just to be sure?

You can check the volts across the the electrical connector on the top of the pump housing. It should be around 10.5.

Chilton Repair Manual said:
If the pump is getting good voltage supply, the ground connection is good and the fuel pressure is not within specification, then replace the pump.

Pump is almost ready to come out. I got both lines out today and the locking ring removed. What I don't understand is that there was no pressure at all on the fuel rail before I pulled the lines and the white line was definitely very pressurized when it came off. I'm assuming that is the return line? Anyway I hope to get the pump out tomorrow.

Pulled my fuel pump tonight. I broke the plastic retaining ring on the fuel supply line when trying to remove the line. I am going to order a FSVT pump tomorrow and hopefully I can get the white plastic retainer as well.

If any one has any advice on sourcing the plastic retainer on supply line that would be appreciated. This is where the fuel line connects to the rigid line under the rear seat.

I would try your local ford dealer or call Bill Jenkins. If neither of them have it, junkyard is your best bet.

Pump is out and it doesn't look that clean. Exactly how do you get the sock off it? And there is a bunch of crap floating around in my tank. Looks like pieces of leaves or something. The gas toward the front of the car looks pure yellow.

If you are talking about the sock on the bottom of the pump just gently pry off. It is just a slight press fit on the pump.

I found the white retainer but had to buy the fuel line as well. It was around $30 from Jenkins. I wish I had been more careful removing....

nice. congrats. what did you do about your codes?

I'm still waiting to see what comes up. I've driven the car for about a half hour and I don't have any CEL yet. I tried to seal off my custom vacuum lines while I had her in my garage so we'll see what happens. I'll post updates with the codes.

Well I have two codes as of now, P0171 and P0174, system too lean bank 1 and 2, and I'm waiting for the O2 sensor code to come back. The sensor most likely needs to be replaced but I'm going to put that off till the temperature goes up a bit. I'm just happy she's back on the road and she still stalls if you let the revs drop to fast when coming to a stop, most likely a faulty IAC. Although she is idling much better than before so I am a little confused about the stall now, but as long as I keep her in gear until the revs are under 1500, things are usually ok.

that actually happens to me also. Except both banks are rich. 0172 and 0175. my datalog shows all is well with the IAC. after driving around for a while tho, it hardly does it. it usually occurs very frequently after i load a tune onto the car. i just assumed it was the car trying to find an idle:shrug:

Yea I have to let the car run a minute or two before I start driving or else I can't get it to hold an idle when coming out of gear. I'm gonna give my MAF a quick cleaning and run some injector cleaner through. What are you using for your datalog?

I didn't clean the MAF yet but I'm starting to think dirty air filter. It hasn't been cleaned for about 10 months. Well make that 7 since the car hasn't been on the road for almost 3 months.
