Car ALWAYS has problems!!

After everything i think I'm going to buy a new car. 04 and up.
I'm looking at Volkswagen's...I want a car that is pretty quick but a auto tranny...i don't know if i will be able to learn stick.

What is your price range? It's not hard to learn stick. The 04 Jetta 1.8T can be a lot of fun as a manual, but I don't know what it'd be like with a slushbox. They get really good mileage too.

i was actually looking at an 03 getta 1.8 T has 55k miles and its 7k.
CAI all tinted out all black...stick.
really nice

IIRC from reading on VW vortex, CAIs do absolutely nothing for 1.8Ts. A better alternative is to optimize the factory airbox by removing the sound ribs at the top of it to smooth out the flow. Now, a simple turbo-back exhaust on the other hand, is an entirely different story.

its not that bad alot of my friends have GTIs.

I love driving a car with a manual...but even just driving in Scranton or Wilkes-Barre left me with an annoyed feeling.

The only reason I have an auto now is because I don't like the idea of stalling out at the wrong moment on the trails.

I thought 3L's had too much torque for the already weak ATX and that's why nobody does them?

it can be done. but with the already frail atx, and the other issues with this car its asking for trouble, imho.

also if the sound goes away it could be the timing chain tensioners. but thats just a guess.

VW's are super easy to drive with a manual trans. Do it. I didn't know how to drive a manual when I bought my Jetta. I liked it, said I wanted it, paid for it and my dad drove it home. Within 30 mins. minutes of getting it, I was driving myself to work.

My best piece of advice, don't let anyone in the car with you while you are learning. Everyone has their own opinion on teaching you, take the car and go learn on your own.

The auto trans on a Jetta is disappointing IMO. My mom had auto Jettas and they suck, didn't seem to want to get out of it's own way. My manuals were great, much quicker.

Now that I've read through the whole thread, I must say that I am disappointed.

Oil light comes on due to insufficient oil PRESSURE. It's not like the coolant where it measures how much...

Not trying to be a jerk, but you have much to learn about cars. :o

That's why he's here, to learn. Marc has admitted many times that he is learning. We all started out not knowing all that much and someone was nice enough to help us. Let's help him, that's what we are here for.

Brian, the kid doesn't know to put the car in park to start it. Do you really think it's a good idea for him to start taking things apart?

To the OP, before you do that, check your trans fluid level. The ATX will make a knocking sound also when it's low on fluid.

Seriously, that's enough. There will be no more sarcastic remarks in this forum toward Marc. I don't know how it is in your regional forum but here Marc or any other member can come and ask the questions that they'd like answered without having to get bashed.

Marc, feel free to ask your questions.

Marc it of course is your choice but from a maintenance stand point VW's in my opinion are not fun to work on .The biggie for me is the lug studs :nonono: then the oil filter location and just plain weird suspension 0.02 worth:shrug:

idk.. VWs are okay. i think they are hit an miss. I helped my friend on his VR6. i didnt think it was too terrible. but my friend with the SRT just picked up a Wolfsburg jetta and its already broken. and cant figure out the problem.

Personally, i like VWs. great selection for aftermarket and decent styling and handling. I say get what you want.

haha.. i think the hydro lock was his fault. the kid was dumb enough to drive through a lake. but the VW he got, he was driving to school the first day he got it on the road. and i guess it started misfiring, threw a CEL and now wont start. Last i heard the shop isnt too sure what it is exactly.. which is weird.

Today at work I had a 04 Jetta 60k did front and rear pads and rotors and a cam sensor 1000.00. Previous work done was a water pump recently  just saying

Go manual. I always said I wouldn't. Also it looks like someone else has taken the crown for Most Troublesome North East CEG vehicle... as I am the former. ;)

im looking at the 06 and up hyundai tiburon GTs.
not getting a stick but i really like them.

looked into the injen intake and the ARK exhaust or borla exhaust...what ever i can find cheaper

Bill (Pre98) had one of those so I'm sure he can give you some info on his experience.

Remember, just like any vehicle, some have issues and some don't.

I'm a VW fan. Got a few sharp ones in my neighborhood and really would like to go back. OK, so one has stretched rear tires and a fart can'ish exhaust, not my thing, but it's not too bad looking.

That's the thing, if there were other CEG people near Marc it wouldn't be so bad with the cost of repairs. With the VW, sure they are a bit of a pain to work on, but just like the Contour, you get used to it. Unfortunately, Marc has to send his car to a shop. :(

If he lived on the "Good" side of the state, he could bring it to Scott's Speed Shop. I've heard he works for Monster Energy Drinks.
