BLKOUT2: Rebirth. PRT 2011 track car build thread.

Quite the contrary. New front end is half the weight of stock. Car's gotta be done long before July....I'll have it good and ironed out by the time we get together....Should I add a *Hi Rob, move over" windshield banner?

Better make it big, everything is smaller in my mirror.
You have done a ton of work and it looks fantastic!

Finished adapting for the S13 camber plates this weekend and cut the towers out. Next step will be having the new tops CNC plasma cut and welding them in!

Making the adapters:

I did things a little differently than is typically done with these camber plates in that I wanted to retain the roller bearings instead of relying on the pillow ball. I've seen a few pics of damage to parts when the pillow ball seized etc, but additionally I really like how smoothly the needle bearings work, so it was just a matter of incorporating a new perch into the required spacer.

I also removed the step from the top hat as with the new plates it's not necessary. It's required on stock cars to keep the hat from contacting the upper strut mount. This was done to allow for more ride height adjustment and an overall cleaner look.

And lastly removal of the remainder of the stock tower top.

Any pursuit of grinding off the welds of the Koni's and moving them down a bit? Im sure you thought of it.

Cut off wheel to do a radial cut, steady hands or big balls, I dont know...

that looks painful

Maybe I'm just used to it? Never bothered me.

Both? It's how I've always done this stuff. Take your time....

I have built a set of modified GC's before and will be doing the same thing for the track car. Pics below.

or just put them in the lathe, thats how i took the perches off

I cut the perches off Koni's with a hack saw and some patience. My lathe isn't large enough to chuck them.

What was your intent? Same thing, more adjustability?

For me? Yes. That and a cleaner look than sticking a D-ring on top of a cut off weld that's not always level around the strut.

i meant more the fact that your right arm has an extra bend in it. i played in grinder sparks when i was a kid

I remember your teaser post about modified GC's, didnt know if you followed thru. When you made the post, I could only speculate that's how you would do it. I like what you did. Always thought the GC setup was a little lacking.
