BLKOUT2: Rebirth. PRT 2011 track car build thread.

i made one out of plate steel for the front, i love it. if you redid every mount you could in theory lower the motor down and get the cg lower

both the roll resistors on my VR4 are solid steel. they are quite a bit lighter than stock and far cheaper than poly filled ones. Love them, even on a DD.

Stopped at the shop to measure a few things up and grab parts. The next few days will be spent producing solid models and drawings of new components for the engine mounts and roll resisters as well as the new strut tower tops which will likely be the first thing welded back into the car.

You got the Maximal Motorsports janks? I loved them on mine. I didn't even notice the vibration at idle...but those not used to it certainly did!

I took all of the pictorial updates from this thread and transferred them all over to a new build thread on another site and in doing so never realized I never posted the pics of the gutted rear doors so here, so here's a throwback posting: I removed the window regulators, gutted the doors and cut out the rebar. They are stupid light. Still haven't gotten around to lexan.

The last few days have been dedicated to design and fab. First up was to finalize new strut tower top to allow me to run modified S13 camber plates. The plate has been rotated 180 degrees and pushed slightly off center, this allows for maximum negative camber adjustment while still retaining some positive for customers wishing to just correct camber for tire wear from a drop suspension. These will be sent to the CNC plasma cutter this week.

Next up was to begin building the new engine and trans mounts. I'm replacing the factory stock rubber with Energy Suspension universal isolators and building/modding the mounts to suit. A V2.0 of the trans mount is in my head already, but holding off for now. I got the front end re-stripped, which now takes about 10 minutes thanks to all the changes so far. I would have finished the engine mount, but I need to order materials tomorrow as I couldn't get what I needed locally on the weekend. They are a huge step above factory and are both stiffer and lighter weight.

I capped off the weekend by capping off the former core support in preparation of building the new front end in the next week or two.

Every time I stop by this thread I'm amazed. I'm sure you don't need the kudos but wanted to give you them anyway. This is a massive undertaking that I'm sure will end up being one of the most, if not the most, epic Contours of all time...

It's nice to have hard work recognized. Thanks.

it has been the most epic contour for some time already...

There are more epic builds out there. I'm playing catch up. ;)

That's pretty slick Josh. Nice work. Definitely see some improvement with the trans mount and the passenger side motor mount. Question on the motor mount though... is that just a mock up? Reason I ask is I'm thinking you may want to consider adding in supports at the other bolt mounting locations. That is a fairly decent moment arm and it also doesn't constrain the mount in all the directions seeing movement (fore-aft)

F'n amazing dude. Nice work on the mounts and that camber kit is going to tittays!

Waiting on materials to get here. It will use all three original mounting points. I'm hoping to have it finished wed/thu and move on to the new front end and upper strut tower welding. I stole the urethane isolators from the RWD build and I wasn't sure how they would handle the weight of the engine and trans but when you drop the jack and put the weight on them they don't budge. Very pleased.
