4.06 Ratio for MTX-75

Yeah, the 4.06 final drive with a 3.0L = wheelspin even with decent summer tires (I have Eagle F1 GS-D3's). It is fun though. I can't imagine what i'd be like with a turbo or supercharger, 1st gear would be useless.

Terry Haines did a 3.5 swap for my turbo CSVT. Should drop the highway RPM down 500 or so. Much better gear for our cars. Not sure why they wanted such a high RPM on the highway in the first place...

To give the stock engine a little more "oomph" off the line.

The gear ratios, both the final drive and the trans, are ideally matched for the 2.5. With much wilder cams, they would still be a good match for a 3.0.

The added torque of a 3.0 as we know it pretty much makes 1st gear somewhat useless with the 4.06 final drive.

And the old hot rodder in me would just love to try a nice lumpy set of cams with those low gears. Its so much fun to drive a wild cammed engine high on the pipe.

Yeah, if I were to do it again I would still use the 4.06 ratio, you can't beat that extra torque multiplication and even with a 3.0L it's no torque monster, when I do get the tires to stick it pulls nicely. The added rpm on the highway never bothered me either.

The only things from keeping me from going TC or SC with my 3L is that anything over 300hp, like stated, is hard to put on the ground. A nice 75 wet shot to a 3L would be fantastic I think...... I too have the zetec final drive with my 3L, it's good.

My 3L shreds 1st with ease and second if you get into it with the 3.8 final drive and has plenty of torque cruising at highway speeds. I can only imagine that 1st 2nd and part of 3rd would be useless with a 3L...

With yours, have you noticed that once you hit 3rd is when the car really really starts to want to take off?
