I've been working on my brother's 95 Mystique ATX Zetec and can't seem to find the problem. It just started acting up about 2 weeks ago.

So far I've replaced the ECT sensor, and O2 sensor. The codes that I've pulled are:

172 (R,M) Oxygen sensor not switching - system is or was lean - Single, Right or Rear HO2S
181 (M) Fuel system was lean at part throttle Single, Right or Rear HO2S

The rest of the details are here:

The vacuum lines all appear to be connected and no damage to any of them.

I wanna make babies with you. :o

WTF!?!?!?! That fixed it!!!! So basically, I replaced a bad MAF with another bad MAF. Time to find a brand new one.

I'm talking to Ian on the phone right now, and he suggested that. I had a feeling, but he said it. Go make babies with him:cool:

Tony take a gander at cleaning it. The best way, in my opinion, if done right, is to take the sensor itself out (by unscrewing the security torx screws), and applying electrical parts cleaner and a razor (if there is dirt buildup) in the coils. As long as you are careful with the coil it'll work just fine. Mine was caked with dirt and my mechanic took it out and did this exact method and it worked like a charm.

We had similar MAF problems with the GL years ago.
After a cleaning of the wires, we noticed they were kinda corroded, so we bought a brand new MAF. That pretty much solved it.

Yeah, I ended up running down to AutoZone and buying some cleaner after I unplugged it. I figured something might just be gunked up. It ended up fixing the problem and it's running smooth as can be now.

I need to remove the new O2 sensor and replace it with the old one and get my $100 back (sensor and socket set).

Now I just need to fix the tranny fluid leak and it should be good to go. It still drives like poop because of some suspension problems, but the car has brand new brakes all around, and bled out all the fluid. It moves along fine now so hopefully this is it for major problems.

You have a tranny leak? is from the line that I replaced?

Very curious... PM me if you want.

Yeah, it's the fitting that was installed in the radiator. Every weekend has been very busy for me so I've had no time to shoot you a PM about it.

It's leaking from the threads on the fitting and running down the radiator.

I'm finally getting caught up on stuff so I was gonna shoot you a PM about this coming weekend to see if I can take a drive up and have you look at it.

I just took the car for a drive after adding more tranny fluid and it shifts perfectly again. It just acts up when it's low so I think overall the car is running good minus the leak.

That really sucks because if the fitting can't be sealed up real tight, the only other way to fix this is to get another radiator! :(

Maybe hit EBAY for a cheap one??

That main fitting in the radiator is busted, as the inner stopper back into the raditor tank for the ATX fluid... sorry man, I knew it was too good to be true when i "thought" it was fixed, and wasn't leaking anymore...!

Tony I may be checking out a parts car that I think is a Zetec (still awaiting a reply), and I'll grab the MAF from it if you want. I can keep you updated.

Codes? Tranny fluid leak? Suspension issues? OH NO! :( :( :( What happened to my baby?

Okay, I get a bit attached to my cars as well. :o I got caught up on the MAF cleaning and the tranny fluid cooling lines. What's up with the suspension? Hopefully it's the front suspension since I had the rear components replaced.

Ebay? Silly. To the junk yard you go!

It sounds so simple.

Early-95 was the only time this radiator was used. The fitting on the ATX cooling lines were changed for late-95 to 00. So by buying a radiator from a 95, it doesn't even guarantee it's the correct one. eBay has a few listed but they don't show enough pictures so it may not be the correct 95 radiator.

I found one for $50 shipped but I need to confirm it's the right one. I'm waiting on pictures from them.

I would change to the later style, but I just put 2 brand new cooling lines (early-95 style) and it would be $60 wasted. I would need a radiator and another $60 in the updated lines. If I had known the radiator and lines were all damaged, I would of bought everything with the updated parts from the beginning.

Codes have been cleared with just an MAF cleaning. Both ATX cooling lines rusted out and were spraying fluid by the end of this past winter. The suspension is rusted out in the rear (minus the struts and springs). The front suspension could use a good rebuild since they are original struts. The steering rack still needs to be replaced to fix the play in the wheel. I have a rack from my SVT parts car but I'm not sure if it will bolt up to the 95.

It felt ok with the stock wheels and tires, but with E1's and KDW's, the bad steering causes the car to float all over the road when there are imperfections. That's just the way those tires are and the steering doesn't help it.

Honestly, this kind of stuff is to be expected on a car this old. It was fine for a while but things were let go and I didn't become aware of it until my brother started driving it.

Luckly the brakes stop awesome now. All new pads and rotors with a rear disc conversion and no more leaking fluid.
