3.5 Ecoboost pics

maybe manufactures already do this and im an idiot.

Some do and some dont. Ford isnt really "tuner" friendly since they have their own upgrades from other things like Shelby, Saleen and Racecraft. I was very happy when Hyundai released the Genesis Coupe so tuners could play with it and then show them at car shows.

this engine is a sick little devil. You guys will like it a lot. The downside is, serious power increases won't be super easy because the stock turbos are very small, and the DI pump doesn't have much room to increase fuel delivery and DI pump upgrades won't show up very quickly from the aftermarket.
The question is did Ford use the same DI pump as the Mazdaspeed DISI Turbo? If so, there is an upgrade...

why not let the aftermarket know the pumps so they can build a bigger one. that way when the cars come out they R&D is already started or done.

and why not let aftermarket companies get pre release cars so that when the cars are finally released they have stuff for them.

maybe manufactures already do this and im an idiot.

engine looks like a fun one

What are you up on? That is so far out of Ford's culture I don't ever see it happening. How does that song go? "only trouble is, gee whiz, I'm dreaming my life away"

Actually Ford was the first through SEMA to develope information exchange through aftermarket companies to make it easier for them to tune/make parts. I would say is more "tuner friendly" than most companies.

At one time maybe. I remember when the Focus came out Ford really wanted the aftermarket to embrace it but nothing else comes to mind since then. They're pretty protective of the Mustang brand and have sued aftermarket companies before over their products.

Same idea, different implementation. I'm sure someone will eventually, but it won't be immediate, just like the 2.3T in the Mazdaspeed cars.

Yeah...took awhile for the pump upgrade for the 2.3T. BUT like people are finding out now, there may be a reason. A lot of people blowing up their cars with upgraded turbos, etc.:blackeye:

Yeah, DI is a whole new ballgame for the aftermarket folks, and it has all sorts of new quirks that people aren't familiar with. I know that even though this new D35 EcoBoost uses some seriously high end valve materials for the exhaust, a tuner that doesn't know the ins and outs of DI could VERY easily destroy the exhaust valves in a hurry, and have no idea why or how. Even really high end sodium filled valves wouldn't help them either. And that's just the valves . . .

I think if I were spending the big bucks to hotrod one of these, I'd drop the DI setup for the time being until it is more well-understood, unless I had the big $$ needed to do the development properly on it.

13.9! Nice.

wow that is quite fast for a lincoln, so I take the SHO will be a tick faster? cause the lincoln is a bit detuned compared to the SHO. And to think the the aftermarket gets it hands on that engine, u will see them in the 12's before u know it

Every single Ford model that's come out in the past few years has seen Ford turn it over to tuners before hitting the market. It's called the Ford/SEMA Technology Initiative and they've been doing it for a decade and in fact didn't even start until after the Focus was released.

They've sued companies that have tried to make use of their copyrights, yes, but never stepped in the way of mod development and support aftermarket companies MORE than any other automaker.

If you can't remember them you must not pay much attention to SEMA. Donated Fords are all over the place, including versions of cars not yet released -- the '04 and '09 F-150 had dozens of each displayed at SEMA and hundreds of parts made available the day it was released, the '05 Mustang did as well (as will the '10), several Fusions were given out with developed parts shown at SEMA prior to release, almost every single vehicle Ford is developing is made available to SEMA members prior to release.

I doubt the SHO will be any faster, same powertrain, same chassis, same weight roughly. I doubt they are tuned much different at all.

Very true, I hope these are mod friendly like most factory boosted cars.
The question will be the Direct Injection---higher pressure, expensive pumps, 87 octane, higher compression---all equal less tuning safety.
Anyone know what the Mazdaspeed 3/6 guys are doing?
