1995 Mystique 2.0 vs. Saturn ION 2.2

"Mr. Gambini? That was a lucid, intelligent, well thought-out objection...."

"overruled."

seriously.. you've just taken yourself a step in the VERY right direction, I think. You stated your opinion, your desires, and your reasoning all without so much as a name-call, or any attitude.. I could only hope so much from others on here. Thank you.. and good luck with your mods!

"well, ur honor... the youtz are allowed to mod anything these days..."
"say what? mr gambini, the what?
"youuutzzzz"
"you mean youths"

thats the thing i admire about 95 the most. he's got the most patience of anyone i know. i personally would've flipped a lid aeons ago!

i'll say this much. every thread of urs has brought some much needed entertainment unto this board. thanx 95.

i'm just good like that

bet no one else has a record like that

but seriously i understand you guys (for the most part) and i think you should understand what i'm doin too unless you just dont car, then :P lol

If you are truly that serious about racing, save your beer $ and every other cent you can and buy Striker's turbo kit. Skip the aesthetic mods and keep the steelies and make it a sleeper. Just don't tell your friends about it then remind them "its only a Mystique" then place some bets.

reread the thread. he's not planning on buying a turbo. he wants to have as much fun as he can with the budget he's on.

yea, i mean, I'D LOVE to have a turbo, but that wouldnt be for atleast 2 years. i have to be out of school and setteled on my own house and be able to spare the money for a full engine build and tranny build. but as far as the sleeper with steelies, or not worrying about looks, LOOK AT MY CAR lol

atleast 2 years.

So there's your reality check. 2 years to save for a turbo kit- we've all been there. You might as well save all your money you can so that in two years, when your 95 mystique needs $500 or more in repair work, you can invest in a newer car instead of a money pit.

I love my SE, but unless I feel like maintaining it, odds are I'm picking it apart for the vultures and selling parts at SZ.

For now.. keep it from rusting.

well i was thinking about buying a newer car and making the stique a street legal sub13 second contour. I know, i know "its never gonna happen" but its worth a shot in a Zetec and i really wanna see a Contique break into the 12's

Dude.. respectfully.. the things you claim you can't find using a search function clearly shows you need to slow down. Absorb the information you currently can't find, and then begin the process of actually doing it.

I'm just saying.. your goals are a little out of scope my friend.

Pick up the set of cams first. I had a friend who made 160-170whp NA in his Focus with some (can't remember the brand) stage 2 cams. After the cams get a chip with multiple positions. I'm not sure what's available for the 95 OBD1 though. Get an NA dyno tune for the cams and a second "safe" tune that you could add nitrous to later :)

My friend also had a 50 shot of nitrous on top of the cams that put him over 200whp.

How much are:

  • a set of cams
  • PLUS install
  • PLUS a chip
  • PLUS two tunes
  • PLUS a nitrous kit,
  • (potential install there, too)

going to run him? for that, you can buy a car (or at least use that plus your maintenance budget on the 95) that already outperforms it and is going to be more reliable than a 1995 freinken-car with a shoddy history of maintenance.

I'd love to dump 4 grand into a car and then have to fix it every winter when salt and pot holes start breaking things :)

this debate already happened and the facts are unknown.

thanks for the input, but no nitrous i dont think, yet. i'll wait till the engine is built with the turbo and all (if it happenes) and see if i'm not already in the 12's. if i'm not, then possibly nitrous. once i have this upcomming semester paid off (in the next couple of days) i'm going to order a fuel pressure regulator and wait to see if the UDP comes or if zxtuner gets back to either me or my girlfriend. Also, someone was talking to me about a header and full SVT exhaust to open it up a bit, and a TB from Harrry. i'll probably get in touch with him soon about the TB cuz i have a spare one laying around. The cams will probabaly be summer of 2010, everything else above is my goal for 2009. oh and i also want to get it dyno tuned and chipped.

maintenance isnt that bad on the car, it has new tires, brakes, trans, clutch, and fluids. everything on the car works except for the TCS and ABS on occasion, which i could care less about them. with the budget i have i can do the mods i just stated above. and as for cam instal, its free, i know how to do that, i'm goin to school for this kinda stuff

I'm going with the Saturn and while I'm at it, spell check after the race so we actually know what happen. Capitalize the first letter of a sentence along with "I's":laugh::laugh:

Lmao, sorry for not using caps. I know most of the words are spelled right, but I dont think we need grammar police here. I'll let ya'll know how the race goes. I'm sure you guys already figured that with all of my videos from last years racing.

Edit: ^Is that better?

Edit 2: now after doin some research for the past 2 or so hours, i have found out that i could have a very fast Zetec for just over $6,500. thats including; cams, cam gears, stage 3 valve springs, turbo, injectors, fuel rail, fuel pressure regulator, pistons, rods, gaskets, clutch, LSD, 4 wheel disc conversion (have to stop), MSD ignition, spark plug wires, UDP's, optimized TB, bigger exhaust, dyno tune and chip. i'm sure if i look around a little more i can find better prices and not have to pay shipping.

Not sayin i'm doin it now. just saying, like in 2 years when i'm not paying for school, have a steady GOOD paying job, and i'm financially able.

MMmm.. if I had seven grand to just... dump into my Tiburon. I wouldn't! I'd take $2500 of that for a supercharger and use the rest for something more fulfilling.

Two years is a long time, you may or may not change your mind. :)

very true and good point.. such as, my GF and i want to build up a fox body for racing, but she still needs to work on driving/racing with stick. so maybe use the Mystique for that, and slowly work the car up so she gets used to handling more power then move onto the Fox, but i want to be the first to get a Contour into the 12's if at all possible, so maybe make the Stique a side project IF we get a fox. just have to get a dd that gets good gas mileage first, like another Tour.

Not a bad plan. I actually bought the Tiburon because it was my first DD standard car and didn't want to wrap myself around a tree with the Mustang I was about to buy. Just preventing a common insurance statistic from happening.

thats what i figured. i coulda had a 1989 GT for 4400 in Kentuckey, but, well it wasnt practicle. it was too much of a jump from a 89 Tempo to a 89 GT 5.0. I figure i'll work my way up as well. i have driven a Corvette, turbo GTI, RX-7, 300ZX, etc, but not on a daily basis. but if i can get the Mystique to hit high 15's in the next 2 years N/A, i'd be extatic. i'm just takin it a little slow.
