Fitting MSDS Headers

Hi all,

My mechanic is fitting the headers now, and they seem to be a great fit.

One small problem, there seems to be a small water pipe, which comes out of the water pump housing, going to the heater matrix and is routed between the headers and the engine.

Now, where the pipe passes where the Ford OEM headers were, the rubber appears to be replaced with a metal section. However, where the MSDS headers are now going, the rubber pipe passes very close to the header (perhaps only about 3mm away).

I've emailed MSDS, just wondering if anyone had experience of this problem, and what you'd advise?

Cheers,
Sam

Then something is out of alignment on your car if it's as close as 3mm. It's not the headers I can assure you. This is with an SVT oil cooler.

I didnt really look into this when my 3L was put in with the MSDS Headers:shrug:.

Maybe cause like 3 guys were all over it doing things...interesting find tho!

I havent had any problems with mine doing any funky things yet. probably a couple thousand miles on mine already. 4k at most.

the SVT oil cooler pipes fit fine with the MSDS headers. I was under my car over the weekend and I have 1/2 to 1 inch of cleanence between the header and the metal cooler pipes.

the only way that I know of you would have interference is if you have the vortec spec front header ....

Yeah, so you're talking about metal pipes near the MSDS - whereas I seem to have rubber pipes near. Any idea why? Anyone got any more pics?

What is the vortec spec? I got the headers from MSDS direct.

Sorry no more photos at the minute. I'll be down there later in the week, but wanted to have sorted a plan before then.

What do I need to coat them with? Some v.high temp paint?

Thanks guys - its gonna have to be VHTPaint for me I think.

Back to the 3mm clearance issues - would there be anything I could put inbetween the pipe and the header to make sure it stays okay?

could you circle the clearence issue on the photos? I really don't see any problems with how it is in the photos ...

It's pretty impossible to see in the pics i gave, I took them before the issue came up. You'll have to use your imagination :D

I wonder if he's just worried about exhaust heat and those hoses running behind them. Ford made it like that and thousands of them are running around with no problems so I dont think its a big issue since they add that metal joint in there right where the most heat will be.
