What is out ther now that is comparable to the Contique?

Or,....an SRT-4. Get rid of the factory spoiler and it looks pretty tame. Then add an exhaust WITH a muffler to quiet it down and many people would never look twice at it.

Of course I still have the stock spoiler on mine,..and the 3" turbo back exhaust with no cats/mufflers/resonators certainly doesn't help me be incognito.

My car is finally ready to be retired and I'm looking at getting in to a Mazda 6. On my test drives, I really felt right at home in the car. (I'd accept an x-plan pin if anyone has one ;) )

What part of "out there now" sounds like "what other 10 year old cars"

He asked for new cars comparable to a Contour/Mystique's size/handling/performance.

the Escort GT was smaller, not in the same price bracket (even when it WAS made) and.. get this.. ISN'T MADE ANYMORE EITHER!

Please start reading the post, the replies and then using a little deductive reasoning before you post. Your replies are all 3-4 words long, and the majority have absolutely nothing to do with the post at hand. I know you want to be involved in this forum, and get your wheels spinning on here, but you have to be able to carry on a fluid conversation, lest people start ignoring you either way.

Yeah I was gonna say all that Ray, though did not want to sound too "overbearing" Though to be fair some are saying BMW and Jaguar. I do not see how those are really comparable (price wise, yes I was going for cheaper on my list too ;))

Just curious though, How much was the Contique when it first came out? I do not remember.

My 2000 CSVT was $23k plus in CA with sunroof. In today's dollars, that is $28k. You could spend $23k today and get a MazdaSpeed 3 - different shape, but lots of fun - and put $5k in mods.

Mazda 6 is comparable in terms of size.

Mazda 3 looks/sounds interesting (but smaller). Consumers Reports certainly loves the Mazda 3 - they rescaled their ratings to accommodate rating the Mazda 3 notably higher than other cars in the class.

what about a wrx or sti, i know its a little pricy but even stock damn fun to drive.

We did get the fusion however its a good 6+ inches bigger than the contour in most every dimension. we cant get a v6 awd MTX either:shrug:

according to my inside sources, 2009 comes a V6 MTX fusion SUPPOSEDLY AWD also.

It is a little big, but the more I see them, the more I think a V6 AWD manual Fusion would be my first car out of college when I get a real job. I mean, tint, drop, nice rims, and a chrome bar delete in the front, some nice mesh in place of them and you would have a sweet looking 4 door sedan that could be made to run very well.

Even if that were to happen,..I'm sure it would be underpowered.

Now maybe if they could somehow manage to put a RWD V8 drivetrain in the Fusion.......I'd be interested:laugh:

I just thought of this yesterday, the Focus ST would make a sweet little car (though this might be the last year of them) 4 door sedan maybe a little bit smaller than the Contique. Available with standard 5 speed transmission, 2.3L duratec 4 cylinder (151hp supposedly), moonroof, traction control, body kit, sport exhaust, heated leather seats, fancy red stitched steering wheel and shift knob. Overall they're a little less powerful than a v6 Contique but oh well, should get better gas mileage. Cheaper than you could get an SVTC for new too. IIRC the sticker is around 18k for one of them brand new.

Mazda 6, & Ford Fusion. Hopefully these cars are easier to work on than the Contour? Does anybody know if these 2 cars are easier to work on than the Contour?

Replacement for SVT

Replacement for SVT

Last month it was time to replace my trusty SVT after 162,000 miles.
The most reliable car I have ever had. Almost nothing broke!

Not a lot of choices today. The Fusion doesn't have the power or manual transmission. Nice car but not enough performance.

After looking at Subaru Legacy Spec B, VW Jetta GLI 2.0T and MazdaSpeed6.
Legacy was nice but didn't feel right. Jetta good handling, but about the same acceleration as my SVT and questionable reliability.

A used MazdaSpeed6 GT was the winner for me. Quicker, larger, all wheel drive and better handling.
