SO, most of you know that I had the wheel bearings replaced in my car.

I haven't had it since Wed, which kind of sucks but w/e.

First, they could not get the old wheel bearings out so they told me I needed to replace the front rotors too. Now, I wanted to get slotted rotors when I had to replace them, so that wasn't going to happen.
-This ran me $397(original quote),

Second, I get a call today saying my car is ready, He mentions that my abs light will still be on. I tell him the abs light has never been on. He explains to me that the "tone ring" was cracked and it could go back in. He told me that it would be another $200. He said it would be fine to leave out. He then tried to tell me the bearings/rotors was going to cost me $476, i talked him down to the original quote.

I looked online and it said that I would have no abs if the light is on and def if the tone ring wasn't in.

I called my dad and he spoke to Dave, who is at the service department. I had looked online and it mentioned that the tone ring was apart of the hub assembly, I knew that it would be cheaper to just replace the whole hub assembly instead of just the wheel bearing then the tone ring. I was pissed b/c it would have cost me $200 less.

Apparently when my dad talked to him, the tone ring, hub, and bearing are separate pieces and it wouldn't have cost any less.

Now, going into school I had a decent amount of money, then books and miscelaneous expenses brought my bank account down. I had enough to pay for the bearing work, but now my dad is paying for the tone ring.

Kind of pissed b/c I dont like when my parents pay for stuff for me, but the reason we bought this car was b/c it had airbags and abs and I def want abs during the winter, so he didn't want me to wait and now i will prob not have a cr for 2 more days.

[\rant off]

Yes, something like that. i don't understand it fully. if anyone could point me to something that can it would be appreciated.

I know how you feel - I'm facing roughly $4K in repairs/maintenance for my car right now (or just dumping it in favor of another). Decisions, decisions ..

you are getting the run around somehow.
as brian said the ring is part of the axle.
sounds to me like they fugged up the wheel sensor trying to get the bearings out.

and why would you need new rotors?
they rotors have nothing to do with the hub assembly.

Well, I am going to pick it up today and they are going to show me what was wrong with them. I also want to see what the old bearings were like.

They told me, IIRC that the bearings couldn't come out unless the rotors came off and somewhere in there the barings were stuck/frozen and they would have to take off both the rotors and bearings as one and then replace them with new rotors.

Well, I'm sitting here waiting until they call and if I don't get my car back I'm not going to be a happy person.

yes, the rotors do have to come off, but unless they destroyed them in the process because they were frozen on there, then they should be re-useable.

they just slip on over the wheel studs.

yup, sounds like they are talking about an older or heavy duty vehicle that has the bearing built into the rotor ...

So, I was supposed to have my car back by 12 today. SO I waited b/c they were supposed to call.

Well, no phone call, so I called them. I asked them if it was done and they said yes. Then I called back to make sure they fixed the tone ring problem. They said no, so im like is it done or not, and they're like, we're bringing it in now and it should be an hour. WTF were they doing all day. If it only takes an hour and they had the part this moring then why isn't done when they said.

I am not a happy person right now. Too much fuggin around.

Ok, I got it back, but this is not over yet.

It cost me roughly $600.
They ended up replacing the passenger driveshaft assembly, both bearings and rotors.

The bearings were completly destroyed, so I am glad I got it done.
The car is so nice now, no more low speed pedal pulsing and no more vibrations.

You guys will love this!!!

I get home and check to see if my LEDs work. 3 of the 4 work. Awesome, the one that doesn't work is the front one. Guess what, as I followed the wire back it was hit by something which cut the zip tie from the side and fryed the **** out of the wire. the zip tie is just hanging there b/c of the way it was cut.

Now, I told them when I brought it in about the LEDs and they assured me they would be fine. The most probable explanation is that the guy hit it with an air chisel which was used to get the rotors off.

I called them 5 min ago and my buddy Dave told me that they will fix the wires for me, they will splice them or solder them. Now, if they can't fix them I have to go to my other buddy Ray, the service supervisor, and ask him to replace the whole tube.

Yes, one thing done and now another problem. This sucks!!!

Don't you just love it when you specifically warn them about something and they still screw it up.

I brought my Milan in for a pcm reflash and warned them to make sure the cruise control worked afterwards, since I heard many people say their's didn't. Sure enough, I pick up the car and no cruise. Fuggers.

I just brought it down to them and they fixed it!!!
Yay, they are usually very nice about things down there so now I am happy. They once broke one of my mom's brake drums somehow and they replaced it free of charge. We usually don't have any problems from them.

They treat us good, b/c we have bought 7 cars from them!!

BTW the car is awesome now, it drives so well, no more headaches, I can hear my music and talk to my brother. No more brake pedal pulse.

bearings

bearings

Hi, I did my front bearings about 2 years ago. the rotors do slide right off the knuckle, and the ABS sensor is held in place ( at least on my 95 )by a small 8mm bolt in the back of the knuckle and should slide right out, but carefully taken out. I released the pinch bolt, tie rod end, and CV shafts etc... The knuckle comes out as a whole. I had to then take it to a shop and have them press out/in the new bearings. Cost me about $100. You should see a huge difference once the work is completed.
Good luck!
Jim
