Y Pipe opinions

I'm looking at getting a new Y pipe in the spring. As far as I can tell there are two options for me (being that I don't think I could find a new SHO shop y) and that I want one that eliminates the nasty bend from the rear bank. I could get either the:

Trubendz:
Trubendz Y
or the
BAT seen here:
BAT Y

I'm thinking I would like to stay with SS so I'm leaning towards the BAT. Does anyone think the 2 1/4" Trubendz primary tubes would help make more power than the 2" Bat primary tubes? I mean they both end up at 2 1/2" outlet anyways so I don't know that the end result would be much different.

Another perk with the Trubendz pipe though is the hanger mount for the factory location that would support some of the weight of the Y.

They are similarly priced for aluminized (within $30) and only about $50 more for SS.

If anyone has had one or the other (or both!) and would like to voice their opinions I'm open to hear them :)

I'm hoping this (replacing MSDS y pipe and high flow cat) combined with a new bigger intake pipe and air filter will net me another 7+ whp on the dyno so I can break the 220 mark :o

you have a 3L the 2.25 might be better...btw,pm me a price on your msds y if your getting rid of it. my car has headers...but a stock ypipe:nonono: so i'm either looking for msds or trubenz catless.

My MSDS and high flow cat will probably end up on the Cougar :p

I'm torn between the two. Maybe BAT would make one with the 2.25 piping :ponder: ;)

it has been said that getting rid of that nasty bend will make your car lose torque. the car needs that bend to help it build torque. i think its for the lower end of the RPM range. a optimized stock y-pipe will be great. it has also been said that a stock optimized y-pipe is better than the MSDS one because of MSDS's is not a smooth bend like stock.

Again this is what has been said and i am not saying it is fact. but it makes sense to me.

I believe this, but I'm thinking of upgrading from an MSDS to something like the BAT pipe or Trubendz... Which would get rid of that bend completely unlike an optimized stocker.

If the loss of torque is speculated from loss of backpressure I don't think that will be a problem for me. My Borla cat-back is kinda restrictive so I'm pretty sure it's going to have enough backpressure to keep the 3L happy regardless of what y pipe I run. If the supposed loss of torque is something else I wouldn't mind hearing more about it.

Sell me the highflow cat. Please. I have a MSDS waiting to be put on, and a newer cat would be nice.

there ya go,sell el radio your cat and i'll buy the ypipe:laugh:

I thought you were gonna do true duals... :D

For what it's worth, i'll be optimizing my stock y-pipe and calling it good enough. The gains are similar and it's much cheaper than buying an aftermarket one.

Keep in mind that a stock optimized y-pipe (depending on how far back you go to join the two pipes) is going to be just as good, if not better than either the MSDS or WR y-pipes. It is an identical setup, BUT the stock y-pipe is Mandrel bent...

Now, as far as there being a difference between that and either BAT or Trubendz due to losing the bend, i'm not sure. I've heard that before but i've never seen any actual proof that its true that you lose torque. I wouldn't be surprised, it makes sense to me that you would though.
