Ok, first off my car was throwing a CEL so I hooked up my scann tool and

came up with something about the air metering system, so I figured it was

the MAF. So yesterday I bought a MAF off of a fellow member, I went

home and put it on, diconnected the battery and the light was gone. This

morning the light came back on, I haven't the code yet but I'm sure its

the same one. What else could it be if it says soemthing about the air

metering system????

Certain scan tools will say a code is related to something, while it's not at all. Certain codes (i.e. IMRC codes) are Ford specific codes.

If you just guessed at the problem and bought a new MAF without looking up the code, then :troutslap: to you.

I disconnected the battery, so the code automaticly clears, but like I said it came back on today. I won't be able to plug my scan tool into it until tommorow to get the exact code.

clearing the code did exactly what happened; the light comes back on after you clear the CEL error UNLESS you fix the problem...as obvious...you replaced the wrong part..

pull the code and post it

Not all codes are cleared by simply disconnecting the battery or pulling the fuses. Some are , for lack of a better term, "hardwired" and can only be cleared by a scanner.

Alright here is what I got.
P1131- Manufacture Controlled Fuel & Air Metering
P1151- Manufacture Controlled Fuel & Air Metering

Those are the same codes that I got before, but now this time I went ahead and cleared codes with my scan tool. I really hope it is just the MAF. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It could be the MAF sensor but how old are the upper O2 sensors? If they are more than 75k miles, change the Upper O2 sensors first.

I already got a MAF. But why are you getting a different description of the code then I am?

as posted before

as tony said if the O2 sensors are alder the 75k its time to think about replacing them if the MAF doesn't correct the issue.

Also check for vacuum leaks, its possible that there is a leak after the maf and the computer can not compensate for it anymore, hense the codes. However they are classic codes for failing O2 sensors

WHEELSPIN, the code description you posted is a generic description, which is why it says "Manufacture". It doesn't tell you anything except the number, which you then have to reference back specific to your car, as Tony2005 did. For example, a P1518 Intake Manifold Runner Control (IMRC) Stuck Open code will show the exact same description on the code reader.

I'd say replace the O2 sensors as that is almost definitely the problem, and return the MAF if you can. Those should have been the first parts to look into replacing.

I think you can eliminate MAF problems by disconnecting the MAF and driving the car and seeing if the problems occurr. If they do, it is probably something else as when you disconnect it the computer uses a base table of values and doesn't look at the MAF.

good luck, we all need it,

mike

Tony is right. Change the O2 sensor in both banks. They are past due anyway.:o
