Why you do regular oil changes

Quicj background my 2.5 decided it wanted to start knocking so needed a cheap replacement. Went to a local junkyard and picked one up $167 for a 3L.


Now there were 3 3l's there one 04 100k miles an 02 with 150k and an 01 with 200k 200k was out imediatly bc of mileage. The other two I wanted the 04 for the mileage and cams.... But

What you guys think?

Went over to the 02 with 154k and omg

It's all about the maintenance. Seems like a motor will run FOREVER if well taken care of.

Keep in mind junkyards will run a cleaning agent through the motors that they plan to sell. Majority of the engines I've seen look like your second picture.

No, I think it's a pretty hardcore detergent like kerosene or ATF or a mixture of both.

That 1st motor is disgusting! Talk about neglect I doubt that oil was ever changed in that thing.
