Why you do regular oil changes

Quicj background my 2.5 decided it wanted to start knocking so needed a cheap replacement. Went to a local junkyard and picked one up $167 for a 3L.


Now there were 3 3l's there one 04 100k miles an 02 with 150k and an 01 with 200k 200k was out imediatly bc of mileage. The other two I wanted the 04 for the mileage and cams.... But

Was there oil ever here? Lmao
 
Keep in mind junkyards will run a cleaning agent through the motors that they plan to sell. Majority of the engines I've seen look like your second picture.
