I just got my xcal 3 and I need to get my car tuned asap. Im asking myself a few questions and I figured you guys would be able to provide the best answers. Here is my dilema.

Logan Motorsports said they would charge anywhere from $300 up to get the car dyno tuned, it all depends on how long it takes them to do it.

Joe from Nautilus said "We charge $200 for a performance tune and I will tweak it out more if you need for the same price."

Which one is the better choice? I want to go with Nautilus but I don't know how good of a tune I will get without it being on a dyno. I bought Reeb's black 3L hybrid svt. Any input would be great, thanks guys.

DeWayne knows what he is doing when tuning a car. I went with Logan Motorsports myself when i turboed my Zetec. one bonus of putting it on the dyno is you get to see how much power the car makes and can get a print out of it.

that is a fair arguement. dyno tuning would produce a printout and you can watch him as he does it. or joey who has an undeniable knowledge on this platform, either way the tune will be effective. datalogs do not lie. lol.

I like to think in terms of long term pay-out.

Who will be most beneficial for a long term commitment?
If you go with Logan's and you change something on your car... how much to dyno-tune it again?

What about if you move?

Sure, the "print out of power" argument is great.. I agree; the first time. After that, its a "plus" but not a factor in my choice. I know what power I make, I don't need to pay an additional $100 to have another slip the next time because I changed my intake, etc.

Over a long run, I'd pick Joey any day.

JOEY(NPG) ALL THE WAY. in the first place, the customer service u get with joey is UNMATCHED...PERIOD! the guy will sit on the fone with u all day if he has to just to make sure ur car's working fine. i dont know anyone who's had a problem with his tune. pegged rich, i put down well over 300 to the wheels. i wouldnt worry about the power issue, or how much u expect at the dyno. remember, the fee u pay joey is one time. he'll keep working with u till it's right. on the other hand, at the other place, u keep getting charged as long as it takes. no comparison really if u ask me:shrug:

I was just wonding if any of you knew of a rough estimate of how long it takes before I get it back? I'm taking a little road trip next weekend and I plan on getting it to Nautilus ASAP

Does the Xcal 3 have a base tune from SCT for our SVT?
My Xcal 2 for my '97 SHO had a base SCT I modified with the options and I liked it.

lets say i am playing around with it... will the xcal atleast let me know if i do something stupid to endanger the engine? Like i know you can adjust the timing. i want to play with it but i know messing with timing a little bit can do big things.

well, unless u have a A/F wideband, its kinda hard to see what u've done. for example, u can richen or lean out the car i think 15%. not too sure. u should see it on ur xcal. a wideband will show u ur adjustments. i wouldnt mess with timing tho. joey's tune will be on point on that. other stuff that can be done are redline adjustments, idle rpm, and so forth.

alright, wow thanks guys you all have helped a ton and pretty much answered everything clearly. I'll be calling Nautilus a call tomorrow to get this tune going, I can't wait to see/feel the difference. I will definitely keep you guys posted on how it goes.

thanks again

Joey is pretty quick about getting back to you with a new tune once he is provided with the datalogging that he requests so he can make a tune.

Just remember he does alot and has a normal job so the times can very but he is very prompt and helpful.

I have been very, very pleased with all my dealings with NPG.
