ok so i have the adapter for my pioneer head unit so i can hook my ipod up to it. now im looking for a place to mount the connector so i can hook my ipod which is a nano or anyones ipod and have it look like it was ment to be there. it will be installed in a 1999 center console. any idea where i should mount or place it. i can do my own install so making it fit isnt a problem. just looking for peoples ideas where to put it.

i have an ipod hooked up in my car through the rca inputs in the back of the receiver. i just ran my cable underneath the center console and drilled a hole in the wall closest to the shifter in the area where the e-brake is. its a decent location, it easy to reach with my hand, but its somewhat hard to opperate when driving, youll have to know where all your controls are and youll have to wait to stop if you want to find another song or album to listen to.

Which adapter is it? Is it the one that just allows you to plug in any RCA cable, thus requiring you to control your ipod through the ipod itself? Or is it the adapter box that allows you to play/control/charge your ipod through the Pioneer radio?

If its the former, I used to stretch the cable from behind my radio around through the driver's foot well and put my ipod in the cupholder. Wasn't pretty but I didn't have to drill any holes.

Then I upgraded to a new radio and purchased the ipod control box. What I did for that is remove the innards of the factory amp (basically just the PCB and the heatsinks) and velcroed the control box inside the amp's enclosure. I then remounted the amp's enclosure to its factory location, strung my ipod cable to the glovebox and the power cable from behind the "factory amp" to the back of the radio. Ipod stays in glovebox and everything is controlled from the radio.

Pictures upon request.

its the latter i like that idea pics would be awsome since i dont use the factory amp anyway. i might make a custom mount in the glove box give it a factory look. i like things to be clean and look like it should belong.

Hopefully this link works...

i mounted my Ipod next to the center vents, in that 'useless' change holder. i ran and Aux connector from the back of my Alpine up past the clock and vent and out the 'change holder' it was the most ergonomic place i could think off. i don't have to take my eye's off the road and my right index finger and can access the controls without leaving the wheel. :)

to use my ipod i control it through the head unit with either the remote or buttons on the head unit. so i dont need to see it exactly but that looks really good tho!

i just stuck mine near the wheel above that coin holder thing with some velcro and it has worked great for me and it was really really cheap, the wires kinds look liek crap hangin down but im gonna fix that soon

Sorry this took so long, I've been busy this week. This is what I did:

First, remove the factory amp by disconnecting the cables if they're still intact. Don't worry about them because if you're using an aftermarket stereo chances are they aren't connected to anything. Then unscrew the 3 philips screws to remove the amplifier.

You'll see mine is missing the giant heatsink. Once you remove the 4 torx screws (2 of which screw directly into the heatsink) and then inside the amplifier you can easily remove the heatsinks and the amplifier PCB. Its been a while and I didn't feel like taking it apart tonight but I think its just 2 screws inside to remove that whole mess.

Once the amplifier board and heatsink is removed, all that's left is the empty case. I used self adhesive velcro on both the amplifier case and the iPod box. Then I put the top back on (without the heatsink it has an open top), routed my cables through the back of the dash and connected them to the back of the stereo.

BLUE: RCA cables
GREEN: iPod Dock cable
BLACK: iPod interface module.

Put the box back using its own 3 philips screws and stretch the iPod cable over the top of the glove box.

Here's the iPod all happy in the glove box:

That's all I did. Took about 30 minutes. Let me know if you have any questions.
