Where is the OIL??

Ok so I guess the oil isn't evaporating after all .haha
I disconected my exaust to make sure my engine wasn't burning oil and it's good.

Looks like the leak is coming from the right side of the engine. It's all over the bottom side of the plastic timing belt covers. I disconected the first 2 and only found a little oil . It might be the oil pump or something.

I'll keep you guys updated this weekend.

One big question is how in the world do you remove the bolt from the crankshaft pulley?(When I rebuilt the engine I held the crankshaft from the other side) With an impact gun??

either the oil pump or the front main seal. both suck to replace.

impact gun works very well to remove the crank pulley bolt.

K , so I took the engine apart and It looks like I have a leak at the cam seal(intake). I looked around , and the oil pump looks clean. It doesn't look like a little over 2qts has leaked in that location..

If it was the front main seal , I would either have a leak under the tranny or if it was going in the clutch are it would make it to slip.. Right??

I just can't figure out where all of that oil went..

the front main seal is part of the oil pump. the rear main seal is what your thinking of and yes if it was leaking and got onto the clutch it would probably slip. your not likely to be leaking 2 qts out the cam seals either.

do you have any smoke coming out the exhaust?

The only smoke that I had coming from the exhaust was white(like steam),because it's really cold outside..i think. I even removed the exhaust from the headers and started the car. Nothing came out , and it looked clean inside..crazy:shrug:

When you did the rebuild, did you knurl in the valve guides and replace the valve guide seals?

I sent the head to a shop that specializes in that. I guess they tested everything and only replaced a valve that was bad..

DYE in the oil??

DYE in the oil??

Have any of you guys used dye to locate an oil leak. From what I understand is that you pour it into you oil and it shows under a black light..?!?

Go to an autoparts store and purchase a crankshaft pulley puller. Your way wasn't very smart. Most places even let you rent one and you get your money back once you return it.

Its called Tracerline dye, and it shows up Prestone green when you hit it with the light. More commonly, it's used with A/C systems, since the buggers can be pretty tricky when it comes to diagnosing a leak. It can also be used in cooling systems. There's an application for use in motor oil, though it looks to be a bit involved, requiring the mixing of a few of their products in varying quantities. Check it out here:

Thanks Laura..

So this weekend I changed the intake cam seal and did the timing better than before. It seems and I prob. do have more ponnies.

Sadly , today I checked the oil and it was at the min. mark. Sunday was at the full mark, however i got my blacklight today and planning on throwing in some dye to see if it's a pesky oil leak or if i'm just burning it without any smoke..

I'll let u guys know how it goes.
