This is a just in case..but, where is a good, reasonable place to get a low-mile 3.0? I'm not sure where to start looking. Being able to pick one up for a few hundred bucks would be ideal.

I used car-part.com too. lkq had a bunch, but they cost more... and lkq's "testing" is only a cold test, so it won't tell much more than knowing the car it came from was running when it was scrapped.

prices on lkq are from 400 to 700 usually in my area, while I got my 27K mile 02 sable for a little under 300 from car-part.com

keep in mind... thats not the price of the swap at all. think 6-7 hundred bones on other parts, and thats being fairly thrifty

Check the cost of stuff in my thread. Killer deals so expect to pay at least that......

gaskets, fuel rail block from NPG, some intake stuff to get that to work, an auto trans throttle cable if you have a pre99 with a manual that isn't an svt, probably a clutch, probably some stuff I'm forgetting. not to mention all new fluids, ultra black, ect ect

we havent even got to eventually having to change out the diff with a torsen/quaife and getting a tune.

just a random update here, upon my latest visit to the local LKQ yard, I was informed that they no longer sell directly to the public. so if you dont have, or know some one with, a garage, you cant buy anything from them.

I bought mine from LKQ about 2 weeks ago. It came from IL. It has 19k miles on it. $550.00. 2004. It seemed that to save about $100.00, I'd go up quite a bit on the miles. I like under 20k miles. This was the going rate in my area. I checked all over.
I hear that as the engines we want become older, they are more in demand for Taurus repairs, hence price increases.
I'm not a garage and don't "know anyone". By the way, I'm in MI.

LKQ as a company doesn't seem to be very consistent in regard to whether or not they sell to the public. I hear a lot of people have been able to purchase directly with no problem. I actually work for a company in the automotive industry, and they gave me a hard time because we aren't a repair garage.

well they do sell items through e-bay to the general public, but you cant just search their catalog and pick it up right at their office like they used to.

They must have different policies, depending on the location.
i looked mine up on their website, called in, gave my payment over the phone and they shipped it to the LKQ in my area. Took 1 day to get there. I drove in and picked it up. I never imagined they wouldn't sell to the public.

as soon as I can get an SVT throttle body I am ready to start building a ported 3.0 swap. LKQ has the best deals in my area. Almost had a totalled 04 taurus for cheap. Got a new uim and lim coming to me.... To bad my car runs good right now and I dont have a spare aside from my wife's. Otherwise I would just pull mine and use parts from it.

I don't think the warrenty will hold up since its going into a different vehicle and the heads, if a ported 3L build, being altered....

It took some convincing to get the guy I spoke with at LKQ to believe that a Taurus engine could go into a Contour. He said that the warranty could still be good, but that they'd be VERY picky about respecting it.
