Whats your MPG??

I drive 17 miles each way to work on a secondary road that has 70 mph day and 65 mph night speed limits, which I usually abide by.

I filled up today and got 28 mpg. Went 350 miles on the tank and put in 12.5 gallons. I average between 26 and 29. My SVT is all stock (so far) except for a drop-in K&N filter. I usually shift around 2500, but I also dip into the throttle a bit or redline it when the mood strikes. What's the point of driving a car like this if you don't go fast every once in a while!?

I am always pleased when I fill up the SVT because when I drove the RX-8 for a commuter I was only able to go about 210 miles on a tank - usually about 18 mpg. And granny-driving that car actually damages it - I found that one out the hard way.

As a side note - my husband's Mustang GT averages about 25mpg.

I just got back from my trip to Amarillo. Took the Contour and while I didn't get all the mileage figures(numerous 100 mile fillups) I got a decent spread.

Headed into a 40mph headwind I got an astounding 23mpg, cruising along at 70-75mph. With no wind I was getting upwards of 32mpg at 75mph. Interestingly enough I ran into a lack of fuel problem so I decided to slow down (the fuel pump was acting up). I filled up the tank and set the cruise control for 60-65mph. I saw a high of 40mpg and 38mpg at a steady 65mph. This was going across the wind.

All this on a car with nothing done to it other than new tires. It's as box stock as Ford can make.

Climbing hills and 10% grades with the car sputtering because the fuel pickup is clogging up is not fun. For the record, Palo Duro Canyon and Caprock Canyons state parks are great places to visit.

Since this thread is about fuel economy, is 70MPH on the highway the most fuel efficient speed? Has anyone ever compared MPG at 65, 70, and 75?
I think it's always been more or less a rule of thumb that 55 - 60 mph is the fuel economy zone. After that, wind resistance becomes an issue. I suppose it's more important for a larger less aerodynamic vehicle to keep the speed down but my car gets better mileage if I keep it 65 or below.

I read somewhere that for a majority of cars that the best mpg you'll get is at 65 and for every 5 mph you go over that you loose 1-2 miles off of your mpg, so thats about right.

i usually get 23-28 mpg with my 2.5 mtx, 135k miles. best i ever gotten was 28.9 (few weeks ago and not shifting above 2500), driving it fairly hard i will see 23, mostly around town, only about 20 miles on highway 3 times a week.

i am getting 200 to the tank...new plugs and wires..any ideas?? i wish i could get as good as mileage as you guys! SVT 2.5 MTX (duh)

Fuel pump, injectors, tranny flush, better oil and filter. Thats what I took care of on my Mazda and got 35-40 mpg. I'm starting to that to this car and its helpin.

I get 260 miles to a full tank. It seems i can't get any better gas mileage no matter what i do. All e-way driving would net me 290 miles. Also this cold weather is killing my/our gas mileage.

Also staying at 70mph will get you way better gas mileage than going 75+.

On a long out of state trip i got 30.5 mpg averaging around 65 mph for 6 hours. Day to day driving i get 22-25. 98 CSVT

I have a 99 SE. 2.5l completely stock. I get 340 per tank combined city/hwy. Last fall I traveled back to Iowa and got near 400 per tank.

I can barely get 300 to a tank when I'm not getting on the gas heavy every once in awhile. 70-75 on the highway shifting at 2500-3000. Mobil 1 synth oil, mobil oil filter and i'm gettin 260-280 a tank. What gives?

with my 99 MTX 2.5L, around town i get anywhere from 22 to 27 MPG... but on the high way i get 28-32 MPG... the best i ever got was 32.8 on my way from north Carolina to new york, i was going 70 or 65 only shifting at 2,500 RPM and drafting behind big trucks as much i could.. and as for mods all i have is 3L TB, SVT intake, dual exhaust with SVT mufflers...

225 per tank 91 oct, around 16 weither i goose:drool: it or shift at 3000.....its crazy..... got performace parts on it tho.....i dont care the cars sick and i live a mile high (colorado) so its acually good for a sports car....... runnin with little or no ox......
