Hey guys,

Time for an update. I realized I've been gone more than 4 months and just kind of disappeared. Well, I got a new car a month after I left.. But don't you guys worry, I kept it in the (Ford) family! It's a 2002 Mercury Cougar C2... V6, 5 speed, 108k miles. All work was done by me and my father.

I could bore you all with the story of how I got it and the process of fixing it and such, but I think a picture's worth a thousand words... And on that note, here's a few thousand words for you guys.

Image cap. Rest in next post!

Keep in mind, there was LOTS of work between all of these pictures, and I have hundreds. These are just the ones with the biggest visible difference. All were cell phone pictures besides the last 3 or 4 in this post, as my camera was broken for most of the project and I just got it back last paycheck.

That's all for now! It's still a work in progress, but now she's running and driving! If anyone has any questions, just ask. I learned a lot during this whole project and would be more than happy to pass on the knowledge.

Looks a lot like my 99 (E1 wheels and all), how come you didn't get the 01-02 headlights? just curious.

To be quite honest, I don't like them very much, and I couldn't find one anywhere that wasn't fogged or cracked for under $200. I got my 99-00 lights which are brand new OEM Fords for $100 from a guy who was parting out his 2000. I needed headlights to pass inspection, so the choice was somewhat obvious. Now I'm glad I picked the 99's, I think they go better with the black front end.

Understandable, I like the 99's better myself too.

Not sure about why someone questioned the headlights, they're black inside and look better than the chrome IMO. Now, what's the color scheme going to be? BTW, to be different, I'd drop a Ford logo inplace of the Cougar badge, but that's just me and my badge re-engineering thinking. I also think the E1's look great on the car too. I also like how some Cougar owners stretch the letters out in the back.

What do you mean by color scheme? The car, for now, is staying white and satin black. The satin black you see on the hood, bumper, and spoiler is purchased by the quart at a local NAPA. I was originally going to figure some blue in, since the gauges are blue, but that's still only an idea I'm pondering.

Wait, so you intentionally painted the hood and front bumper, a different color than the other car? I thought they were just primed, waiting for matching paint....

Gray primered hood was shown in the 7th picture, so he painted it black.

I don't know if that was truly what you were going for but, I wouldn't have left it up to the body panels to stop the black... I would bring it further back past the hood and maybe taper it off in the door if anything. As it is... it looks as if the front end was just grabbed from another car to get it back on the road

Continue the line formed by the A pillar straight down to the wheel well. Paint the area above this black and continue the black to the roof. Not sure what else to do besides that, but that's my idea :)

The hood was gloss black when I got it. It had, well, a "bad word" keyed in to it. The front bumper had deep gashes in it which we repaired. Both the hood and front bumper were sprayed satin black for the winter. This is not permanent by any means, more just something that would look decent to get it through winter. I didn't want to take the time/money to do an expensive paintjob before winter and then have it ruined.

Just as sort of an update, I've thought about my ideas as for what to do with the car in the spring. Filler plates are being made to fill the gap below the headlight. I'm debating either painting the whole car satin black, or only the hood, roof, and hatch. Sort of like this:

Thoughts? Ideas?

Thanks,
Flood
