I can't figure this fugging thing out, before you say "SUNROOF GEAR! SUNROOF GEAR!"

It's NOT.

What it does is, move the sunroof maybe 1/4 - 1/2 a inch in the direction i press the button the go then it locks up.. with a beautiful sound "ERRRRRRRRRRRRRRR"

1.Took it apart, gear is perfect.

2.Take the motor assembly physically off, and run it, it spins, perfectly.

3.Can physically open/close the sunroof if i open it by "hand"

4. Tried cleaning the tray where the sunroof slides, unless i'm missing something, that's not a issue.

5. Doesn't matter the position of the sunroof, thought maybe it was stuck in just one spot, but if i move it to any point by hand then put it on, it will do the same thing.

6. Here is a video, maybe it will help, dunno. (copy and paste the URL)

Help please! Thanks

Hey, this is a long shot but..

..and the 1 place I saw this happen was a stepper motor for the blend air door on an HVAC box..

It's that the gears seem to mesh fine, and the thing spins in your hand just fine, but when you actually put a load on the mechanism, the housing either torques just enough to let the teeth grind on the gears or any of the holes/axles that the gears rotate in have become elongated over time also causing the gears to not mesh.

This is the only way I can explain it.

Pictures of the insides of the motor?

something to check. I was having an issue with my sunroof motor where it was moving very slow and it wouldn't move to the vent position unless I pushed up on the glass.

in swapping motors and finding the replacement I got didn't work quite right I took the black cover off. I noted that there should be a little black pad between the end of the worm gear and the housing. the one in my sunroof motor had moved because the cover somehow cracked. I put it back in place and used the cover off the other sunroof motor I have and its working perfectly normal again.

The black cover orginally was shattered, Todras got me another one... I thought for sure it was going to fix it too, but it did not change a thing.

What pad are you talking about Brapple?

A pad or something right above the 2nd lowercase "s" in this picture?

I have a similar problem also. I think our alignment is wrong. Try checking the alignment of your motor with the sunroof position - that is, use BRapple's advice on our other current sunroof thread , and also follow this guide: http://www.sunroofgears.com/sunroof_install_contour.htm

yes the part I am speaking of is as called out in the above post. it sits between the worm gear and the housing.

I have this EXACT same problem! Let me know if you figure out what the prob is.
