I saw a mouth watering 2000 Contour SVT for sale, with only 60K miles. It has High Output 2.5L Duratec. What fuel mileage would one expect to get at highway driving?

I suspect HO engines need super unleaded as well.

Thanks for any confirmation, Slim.

yes they need premium, I have tried to run my svt with regular and it did not like it. as far as mpg it should average between 26-30 mpg on the highway if its stock, and probably between 18-22 for city mixed driving.

Best MPG I got was 32 but I think as much as 34-35 is possible if you have ideal weather conditions, not hills, and keep the speed below 60, not easly with an SVT though!
Right now with the cold weather and thewinter blend of gasoline they sell in the Chicago area I get about 23-24 on a City/highway mix and around 26-27 mostly highway. What the car really needs is a 6th gear to get better MPG! Something that is taller then 5th. I think the engine has enough torque to pull it, but alas Ford didn't have anythink like that at the time they built them.

I average about 23mpg, mixed city/highway, however much of the highway is at speeds that exceed :censored: mph, which means the secondaries are open. Could be much better if I stayed below 3400 rpm, but still not too shabby for a 216K mile car.

And as it has been said, yes, use super grade.

Replace the final drive gear with the zetec final drive gear.

i have underdrive pullys and a cold air intake on my svt and i get 33-35 highway with 18in wheels and it drops down to about 26-28 city but it all depends on the driver cuz i coast down hills and i dont rev it past 3k when shifting i just put the bad boy around unless i feel the need to spin some rubber off lol

My mileage is horrible... Getting 21 to 23 MPG (depending on the way I drive) on a mix of city & highway. But my CEL is also on because the upper intake manifold has a small leak, the MAF sensor needs replaced and the carbon build up needs cleaned out of the UIM. I'm sure I'll be getting much better MPG once I have this repair completed here in a few weeks. It has been the way since I bought it (1/09), can't wait to not have the CEl on!
