I am seeking a pair of new speakers, mainly looking at sony because they are pretty cheap for their quality. I have 6x8 in the front right now, and 2 subs in the back, i want to upgrade to 6x9 powered by hu. which ones will work? Is it the depth or the actual width and size that effect the fitting? any help would be awesome. I drive a 98 contour lol.

What 6x9's fit in the front?

If you're looking for any kind of sound quality don't get 6x9s. I suggest you save and buy a nice set of components and a amplifier to go along with them. Buying cheap sets just to get by is a waste of money.
6x9s will fit but you will need to build a spacer. A few say they fit. They did not when I had a pair.

Some will, some won't. It depends on how deep they are and how they mount. You need to space the mounting out a little so there needs to be room behind the door panel. If the speaker magnet sticks out the back too far they won't clear.

3'' clears. I have infinity 6x9 reference speakers. I think the sound is great.
