We need to set up a meet...

I love it and know it well, I did the rock slide repair on the 38 and in Big Bear 3 years ago. The south east part of the 38 is good for some high speed runs and the 330 north is great on turning and breaking. And the route can be done in a hour if you don't stop. I did it in a Ford F450 service truck with a tac pot trailer behind 1.5 hour's

I'm not really in a position to help out too much, but I created this route on Google maps. It will take more like 2.5 - 3 hours I'd say. Linky
Is this the route you were thinking?

Thats pretty close to what I was thinking. That route takes you up the backside of the mountain, around the lake and out the frontside on the 38. There's lots of places we could stop in Big Bear. Most likely if I'm going up there I'm staying the night at my grandparents house. We could put this together, I was planning on going up the mountain either the first or second week of August. One note is that my car blew it's coolant on one trip up the mountain and around the lake, so if you're going I suggest getting some high altitude coolant, especially if its hot.

Another option is going about halfway up the mountain, there's a restaurant/dine that opened last time I was up there. Haven't tried it yet. Then you could go back from whence you came.

I'm thinking of taking a cruise of this route with the wife next week. But I'll take the Fawnskin side to avoid the traffic in downtown Big Bear, cross over just east of the airport. Any help on a place to stop and eat? I remember a little hole in the wall place just as you enter into fawnskin, but the wife may want a more establish spot.

depends on what you want to eat. when you cross over the bridge, and go right theres a good italian place and a good mexican place in the KMart shopping center. Theres a good sushi place on the left across the street. I think its the corner of foxfarm and the blvd. there's a great sandwhich place all the way back in the village.

OK!! So it's official. I will be going up the mountain on Aug 12 or possibly late on aug 11. If anyone is interested, let me know. I could meet ya'll somewhere in the I.E. and you could go as far as you like to. It's a Sat and a Sun so I hope that works for everyone. I will be up in BB until tues aug 14.

I think the Wal-Mart parking lot (east-end)next to the chevron station would be a good spot to meet. Its right off the 330 just as you head up the mountain (Highland exit).

I will be in New Jersey for a wedding that weekend, damn. Not that any other weekend would be any easier. Have fun kids!!!

I would be interested in joining for a day trip. It would be nice to meet some fellow CSVT owners. What day has been decided? Does anyone have the address for the WalMart?

i know the date of the meet is august 12th on a sunday, but what time are we meeting and whats the address of the walmart that we will be meeting at?

4210 Highland Ave, Highland, Ca, the last exit before you head up on the 330. Now if you came down the 210 you will see another Highland exit about 3 miles ahead of this one, don't get off there unless you want to go gamble at the Indian casino.

The one you want is off the 330 (Mountain resorts/Big Bear) that splits off the 210. Just incase you do get off at the first Highland exit don't panic! Just head East on Highland Ave and you will run into the Wal Mart (about 3 miles).

I was hoping for a Saturday meet, but I will provide as much support as I can to help this happen.

so is that the address for Walmart? btw, we should start a new thread titled "august 12th meet". id start it but i dont know what time we are going to meet.

I just won 2 Ford banners off Ebay, so I will hang them at the location to help people find us. I may not be there to meet everyone, But I will make this as easy as possible since this is happening in my backyard. We still need a time!!!!!?

No, it looks like I may be going up on Sat night, but I could meet everyone at the top of the hill or maybe come back down, but my plans aren't set in stone yet. Depens on how quick I finish my brakes on Sat.
