What is the point of making people wait 30 days before lettting them post a used car? By that time my car will be sold and no one here, who are enthustasts, will have a chance to purchase it. I have been looking at this forum since the day I got my SVT, just never joined.

Silly rulei imho.

exactly.

Because I wouldn't want to buy a car (most likely sight unseen) from anyone who I knew for less than 30 days, either way!

30 days gives us a chance to see how "involved" you are, or how much you are just trying to use the forums to "unload" your car on an unsuspecting victim. I'm not saying you are.. I am merely speaking in generalities. Your car may be in exceptional shape, and if so, then it shall sell gquickly, I am sure!

If you truly have been watching this site for a while, you'd see that the members also scour ebay, craigslist, autotrader, etc constantly.
They don't just sit around here waiting for cars to appear in the classifieds.

So than what is the point of making people wait to post on here (other than regional ads) I'm sure most people that buy off ebay, craigslist, etc don't know the person selling the items there either.

(just being devils advocate)

because, unlike here, Ebay has multiple things that they can do to either AVOID being ripped off, or have RECOURSE against it.

User ratings, user scores, "confirmed" information (address, account number of seller, etc) and if they do steal you out, you can contact Ebay for LEGAL help against them.

If a user on here rips you off, you don't have any way to PROVE who they are, their account information,etc.. you can't legally do anything about it "through the site". There are no "user ratings" on here.. and a new member wouldn't have one either way even if we DID use that.

Ok, well that does it for Ebay, now what about craigslist?

Actually, I thought the refferal thing was a "user rating" sort of deal - to show upstanding members and what not.

Craigslist is local, not national. Most of the time you are able to see the car, send it to a mechanic, have fellow CEGers inspect it etc before purchasing since you live nearby. It's less likely you can do it here.

Unless you're one of the uber nerds that has a script to scour every "x.craigslist.org/search/car?query=contour" (where x=domain) and compile results into one page so you can see Contours from all over the country. :help:

Personally, on the forums I prefer classifieds only from longtime members who have an established reputation with many posts. If I am looking at a vehicle, I can check their user profile and get a good grasp on the history of the car under their ownership.

I've seen several classifieds that say "car runs great!", but when I look up their post history I see Troubleshooting threads about CELs galore and how they've come up with nifty ways to get the light to turn off.

Also, posts such as "look at me lolz I was racing 'on the track' and spun out and now my wheel makes popping noises when I turn, I've been driving like this for two weeks now and it seems fine but the noise worries me is this bad?" ... you can immediately tell if the car was babied by the owner (as is often advertised) or not.

Lastly, we had a huge problem with spammers and scammers on the boards with our old classified webpage. This requirement has curbed most of those problems.
