Hi again. Just put the correct size tires back on the car, 215/50-16, my speedo is still off by 4 mph at 60MPH. Speedo says 60 and the GPS shows 56 on cruise control. Someone mentioned VSS and how that could be my problem. Any thoughts?

vss = vehicle speed sensor. this tells the speedo what speed to display. remember the speedometer isn't calibrated to be absolutely perfect. also someone could have messed with the needle and moved it. how it it at other speeds?

At speeds above 45, mine is off by the about the same. I think thats just how they are.

As was stated, VSS isn't the problem. Just need to calibrate the speedometer. Requires taking off the dash bezel, and removing the gauge cluster cover, set your cruise control and then place the needle at the desired speed as your cruising.

that still doesn't mean it going to be accurate at any given speedo. you'll just know for sure that its dead on at that specific speed you set the needle at.

While this is true, if you set it at a speed like 40mph, most of the speeds at which you travel at will be much closer than they were previously. I hope I'm making sense.

yeah ... not saying that it will not make it better but these speedometers are not calibrated say as the police crown vics are for the full speedo range, as its my understanding.

Oh well, at least the actual speed is lower so maybe I won't get that ticket as I speed by the hiway cops. Thanks for the insight.
