video's of motor knock help diagnose?

Hey guys I'm looking at getting a 98 csvt great exterior and interior the only bad is it has some motor knocking/ticking:help: . When I went to go look at it today I snaped a couple videos with sound to post on here. I'm sure with how rescourceful you all are you would be able to help me diagnose what is wrong it.
-When it first started up it was louder and slowly got a bit quieter.
-Every once and a while it would fade and stop for a few seconds and then start going again.
-There was a little smoke coming from the motor you can sort of see in the video and a small amount of white smoke was coming from the exhaust.
-When I put my ear close I heard it seemed to be coming from the left cylinder closest to the windshield.

that thing is coming apart. I agree with Tony in that it would be spun bearings.

EDIT: For the right price, I'd buy it. Put in a 3L and enjoy it. It's not too terribly difficult if you have the right tools and a little bit of know how. And considering your location, you have soo many ceg'ers around you to lend a hand and a plethora of cheap, decent 3.0 motors to choose from.

car-part.com and LKQ.com are your friends for sourcing good motors.

He will have my help and possibly some help from Reebs too. I have taught him just about everyting i know about coutours, considering he lives just a few houses down from me, and i think that WHEN he buys it :D it will most likely get a 3L in it and call it a day...that is until the modding bug hits again! :D
 
If the car is in good shape other than the motor, and if he gets it for a good price, then I think he should go for it. That motor sounds great. :blackeye: :)
 
Rev It Up!!!! maybe it will do a "2.5 Crunchiness" it might look cool too to see it go kaboom! :) i never got to do that with my old motor. instead its fate was to savagely torn apart by a bunch of dumb never worked on an engine before college kids :( poor engine...

Check and see if its a loose sparkplug. This was the case with my engine. It can't hurt to see if that could be your problem too.

I will definitely check out the simple things like that when it gets home in my garage. It would be sweet if it was something like that but I'm still going to plan for the worst we'll see in a couple of days.

wouldn't that be sweet to find out that all the problem was, was a bad spark plug. Don't get your hopes up though man!
 
I will be getting in a few of days. I have to wait a couple days for the guy to get a trailer to take it across the Canadian border (less headaches for me). I'm getting it for $1400, pics and full details will be posted when I get it!
