Valve Spring options?

I had it set at 7500 when it was in my 95 SE but was starting to fall off around 7200 or so. I set it above that to make sure that I at least didn't bump the limiter. Shift light was set at 7100. The last time I had someone try and tune it though, I ended up with two bent exhaust valves at what the tuner told me was around 6900 (long story there).

That's good to know though about even the stock springs holding up to 7500. I'm pretty comfortable with setting my limiter there then.

Thanks!!

I honestly don't know if I encountered valve float because i'm not sure what it would feel like.

But i didn't notice anything "wierd" up to 8k.

I've got them set at 7500 on both of my cars. Even still I am shifting by around 72-7300 RPM because thats when the power is starting to fall off. The only logical reason I'd see revving an engine without radical cams that high is to finish without shifting (topping out the gear right at the finish)

Oh and I've got oem valve springs on both engines. The contour has 3L PnP with SVT cams and the Cougar has the stock SVT valves with SVT cams.

You have had the SVT that high of RPM's? I figured it never saw above 3K.

Because I've been told to be a nice boy I should add.

Revving your motor to 7500 rpm and 8k rpm really should be considered a "do at your own risk" activity. I've always been a little nuts with my cars, as evidenced by my spark plug pic floating around somewhere.

Also, a 3L will have a lower limit as far as the valvetrain is concerned because the valves are heavier. So keep this in mind.

Hey... 3L swaps are cheap, right? :) Zoom Zoom

Are you guys just going by what the stock tach says or some sort of aftermarket? I mean, is the stock tach that accurate that you really know at what RPMs you're shifting?
