Upgrading audio

I got it last night, I found the clip as your said and pulled it out with a flathead screwdriver. I got both rear speakers in, but one speaker screw on the right door stripped out. They sound good although highs are muffled compared to when the doors are off. The 4 ways for the front come in friday.

At bestbuy in the bay we keep short and long "fatty" screws, usually fix that stripped out issue, or you could get a "speed clip" which is a clip with a slight threading that might work for you as well, Small amounts like that I usually just give over, some ppl might be stupid and charge you a small amount depending on the installer and there mood..... :D

I know a couple of the car audio guys at my local best buy. I'm actually trying to get hired in as I need a job big time. Either way the rear door speakers are in and sound great..I just can't wait until the fronts arrive. Next step will be a solid amp and a 12 or two. I'll probably just end up doing one to keep the wattage and space needed down. I don't need as much bass as the hood.

Good luck on the job, hope you get it!

If you want my advice for sound in a car....

the heck with the rears. turn them off and never use them again.

All they do is destroy the sound stage. It pulls the sound to the outside ear (left from drivers seat or right from passenger's seat) and behind you. Let me ask you, when you go to a concert, does the band sound like they are in the cupholder for the seat behind you? Or ar they in front of you, about eye level (since you're supposedly looking at them...)???

The rears are useless when located in the doors for just about any purpose you can think of.

Again, that is just my opinion about sound reproduced in a car's environment.

You also mentiond another problem yourself....

highs are muffled compared to when the doors are off.

Sorry I didn't see this earlier and save you a) the cost of buying speakers for the rear, and b) the obvious pain you endured trying to get the rear panels off to put the useless speakers in, regardless of the quality of equipment used.
