Updated PCV?

Looking at an older 3L, the valve covers are flat and possibly plastic vs my 05 covers which are metal and have squares in them....

So my question is, how would I know if I can run the 05 valve covers due to the PCV? I heard if it has the updated PCV then it will be fine. I believe the other motor is an 04 Escape, and mine was an 05 Taurus motor.

Thnx!

Edit: Heres my style covers...

The engine pictured is the old style PCV which still has a breather box between the heads. You could pick up a plate to block it off and put on those metal valve covers if you want to run those. BTW that motor is an 01-02 Taurus/Sable motor not an 04 Escape motor (100% sure of that).

Thnx! I just got the pics off google, the just wanted it for the valvecover because the Escape motor I'm looking at has that kind of cover vs the first style which I have. So all I have to do is get a blockoff plate and then I could run my covers? Do you have any photos of that?

The motor that those 04-05 valve covers came off of should have the plate blocking off the vent between the heads. If you dont have it I am sure someone on here has a plate you can buy off them for cheap. Thats all it is, just a metal plate blocking off the hole between the heads.

Oh okay, so basically all I need to do is block off the vent on the other motor, and then I can run my PC'd 04-05 valvecovers? I'm sorry for all the questions, I'm just trying to understand what to do and why its required lol. Is the PCV the same setup/whatever, minus the vent?

no, the PCV system is setup differently on the 04+ engines. the older engines are setup exactly like the stock 2.5L system, with a breather in each valve cover and the oil separator between the heads that the PCV valve is hooked to (which then goes to the UIM). the 04+ engines have a breather in the front valve cover, and the PCV valve in the rear valve cover with a blockoff plate between the heads for the hole where the oil separator would have been on the older engines.

Okay makes sense. Last question, is it possible for an 04 Escape motor with the smooth valvecover to have the same PCV setup as my 05 Taurus motor with the 1st pic style covers?
