1995 Contour. Has gas in the car and won't start. I've checked for spark and there's spark. I've squirted fuel into the air filter hose and I can't get it to start. I am at a loss. My brother in law is a mechanic (2 hrs away) and said it could be air in the fuel line since it was very low on gas when it happened. I've since added 1/4 tank of gas (through a jerry can) and i still can't get it to turn over.. i don't want to fry the starter.

Thoughts?

Welcome :) .

Do you hear the fuel pump priming when you turn the ignition to on? If not, maybe the fuel pump is broken.

Does it sound like the engine is turning very fast? If it is, then you may have "washed out" the compression. Try pushing the gas pedal all the way down (this shuts off the fuel injectors) and start. If this doesn't work, remove one or two spark plugs and put a teaspoon of oil in each of the cylinders, reinstall spark plugs and start again.

Get in the back seat and have someone turn the key on. Do you hear your fuel pump ? Then it is probably ok. It is probably flooded. I just went through this with my g/f's Contour. If this is your only car try taking out the plugs then get in and hold it to the floor and roll it over for a little bit.(30 seconds or so) Clean your plugs and put them back in and try it. If you have another car just let it set for a couple days and then try it. I let her car set for a week and it fired right up.
Good luck,
Big G
